A little awhile ago, I fixed up the failed rocker switch in my Lionel 12782 Lift Bridge from 1992 by jumping the switch and running an external on/off switch outside of the control box.

However, I've recently run into another unexpected problem.

When I turned it on, I didn't notice that the bridge lever was set in the up position, since I could've sworn I left it in the down position. The bridge went up, so I set it back down. It went down, but then it went back up when it hit the bottom, when it should've stopped. Now it's stuck in the upright position, and I fear I may break the strings. The control box can't seem to tell the bridge to come back down, and resume normal operation.

Is this a problem that involves restringing the bridge, or is it something that hasn't been discussed before?

Open the top of the tower on the one end and inside are the two spools with string, take a tweezers, lift lightly on the span and at the same time un ravel the string from the spool which will allow the bridge to manually lower to its home position, make sure the string continues to follow the guide which leads out of the tower to the span. Hope I am clear.

the span is stuck in the up position. The string is so tight, I can't get tweezers in between the strings. I opened the control box and made it less sensitive but nothing worked. any thoughts
