Studio Shots: PSC CB&Q S-4a Hudson

Here’s a short video I took testing out my install of decoder, speakers and lighting in GPM 2-6-0.  It is an accurate representation of the color of the warm white 1.8 mm LED.

I had not thought of that method which seems to work well. I wonder if they make aluminum sheet thin enough to work in the doming set that would still hold together when “domed” ?  I do have some tin sheet that probably would. Either of those could be polished to a mirror finish and alleviate the trouble of painting the inside silver/chrome.  Be curious if you’ve tried any non brass metal in the dome block.

K&S metals does have some thin aluminum sheet, ….and to be honest, I never thought to try it!!….duhh!!…….and I have some in stock,….more duhhhh…….I can certainly make a test shot,…..

Pat, I’m really curious to see how it might work. Aluminum can be quite brittle. If it spits, try heating it up a bit but not too hot, maybe a lighter vs a torch.               Let us know how it works.

More S4 goodness this time with the early sunset version…

I got around to trying some aluminum in the doming set to make reflectors,…..I tried various thicknesses I had in hand, ….everything up to .016 would simply tear, ….my next thickest sheet was .023 and that finally produced what you see here…….its a little pesky to do the reveal out of the sheet, but doable…..careful if you attempt this it does get razor sharp at the reveal line until you wash off the sharp edge against sand paper….Im pretty happy with the result, it eliminates the step of chroming it and waiting for it to dry…….
