Good Morning Everyone,
I will start off with something I constructed in the past. Let's see what you have been working on.

Nice work guys!!!!
SIRT, your weathering is over the top!!!!
Alan and all, great showcase. Steve just amazing weathering and so realistic. Pete that harbor scene is really nice. Hope you keep those updates coming. Boilermaker1 what a neat Christmas scene. Yep, sure looks like Harry and Marv are "Thirsty for More."

The B.T.S. Coal Tipple kit is a slow go. This week the supports for the conveyor house was painted, glued, and added to the Tipple. The conveyor is assembled and ready to glue into the conveyor house.
Power house is next. All the house sides and window dressings are ready to be painted and then glued.
Grandson’s school ends 12-17-21 and we get to keep him from Tuesday afternoon until Christmas Eve. No power house assembly after Monday night painting.
Hope to run some trains while Alex is with us😊
I have enjoyed the forum tonight as always…
Seth,
You came out of the woodwork on this one. Pun intended, lol. This kit is no breeze on the beach and you are doing a great job with it. Your time with your grandson is a great thing. With the concentration level you have to have with such structures sometimes stepping away from it for a bit is a good thing.

Pete, looks great! What method did you use for the water in your waterfront? Your town looks so photo realistic, both in high quality structure builds and overall placement of buildings and details.

@luvindemtrains the “woodwork” exactly 😆
Sounds to me like this is coming from the experienced one.
I really hope the Tipple fits into the friend’s layout well after all this time devoted. Looks like I’m gonna miss surprising Jim with the completed Tipple for Christmas as planned.
@RSJB18 I appreciate the notice after seeing all of your wonderful work
Nana an Popaw are excited about having Alex this Christmas….
Just finished re-painting an MTH Municipal building - this is a copy of a building I re-painted for a gas holder project. The building itself was painted with flat black then satin cinnamon was dusted on. The windows were painted flat black and the doors flat brown. I used joint compound for the mortar.

Joe the mortar lines look great on that model! I'll have to try joint compound next go round, as what I have been doing looks ok for aged brick but I want to have a new clean building as well like how yours turned out.
Dave:
I have a wet sponge and a shop towel on hand. I use one finger to spread the joint compound over about a 3-4 inch area. I then 'wipe off the compound from the bricks using my palm, thumb whatever is needed. I then clean off my hand with the sponge and towel and go on to the next section.
Let the joint compound dry over night then if you plan on using an India wash whether alcohol or DI water to tone the white down as I do first spray with Dullcote or some other satin clear spray, otherwise you may start removing the joint compound from the mortar line.
