Good Morning Everyone,
I will start out with a model I am constructing for one of my customers. It is based on a picture of a kitbashed building on Norm CS layout. Here are a few pictures of the construction. Let's see what you have been working on.

Alan, looks like a nice project. Is that just a primer coat or the actual brick base color.
Ray,
That is the brick color. Painters touch brown primer. I may have some photos later of the brick detail.
Great job Allan!
Looks good Alan.
I'm continuing on my machine shop build. I put the second coat on the lintels and sills and started on the windows.
I noticed that the building looked short sitting next to the track on my bench so I put a car in front and the dock is about a 1/2" lower than the car door. I think it will be easier to raise the terrain for the building to sit on than adding to the foundation. Once I get it assembled and on the layout I will decide.

Pictures show nine buildings on the southwest corner of my 12’-by-8’ layout completed in 2004. I left no room for a town on this layout, so the best I could do was to build small and medium-size structures to give the impression of a town. This deficiency was remedied on my recent 10’-by-5’ layout, half of which is a town with three streets.

Mel- the building on the right in the last photo looks like the same one I'm working on. I like the add-ons you did.

Thanks, I like that brownish for a change rather than the red all the time, am trying to decide what to use on my structure and am leaning towards something like that. I would be interested in any photos.
Hospital expansion in Schenectady by the Klose Corp foundation. It seems in our little world Hospitals, schools and municipal buildings are the least modeled. Food for thought.
Bob,
I raised my building 1/4-inch above street level. The loading dock is still slightly below the level of a boxcar door but close enough. It is unrealistically far from the track due to being on a curve.

Alan and all, great work. Appreciate all the pictures and info. Steve, weathering looks so real.

On the MTH RS3 version, were those headlights glued in like the WBB/ Kline versions are?
Alan,
Very nice. Who produced the brick walls?

Alan that's going to be a very impressive building, I think that color brick looks very good.

Its a combination of Lionel Municipal Buildings and Electrical Substations
Alan,
Maybe its just the photo angle, but did you have to add any bracing between the 3 sections of side walls to keep it all straight and square? Or did just gluing it up making it strong enough?
I have 3 of each of these kits to mess around with and make something out of, just havent decided what to do yet. Between this version, Peter's Max Foods, and others there's lots of inspiration to work with on these kits.

Blacksheep Woolen Mills
A shorter[tower] version of Norm's Model
Norm C's Machesky Filter Co.
Any others out there?
Beautiful modeling above. I always wonder why detailed modelers don't use 2r track on sidings where rolling stock would be. I will be doing that if I can ever get back to the switching table layout.

No, the MTH single lens pops out from the inside as shown. Exacto knife and hand drill bit will be needed to enlarge the hole. Cut and insert a round clear styrene piece after the housing is painted green. Will be done Wed.
I added 2 figures - RMT Walter in the cab. These improved 3's now have lighted # boards and smoke. Guess the cab figures were too costly to offer? LOL!
Some main grab irons and end steps had to painted yellow as well. Oh MTH?

Mel/Boilermaker,
I added .080 square stock at the joints between the molded in stops on the back of the walls to glue them together. The joints were a little floppy until I glued the floors in.
Lionel has made some great styrene kits over the years, this one being one of the best. I love to kitbash them.
Peter,
I always admired Max Foods.
Beautiful work, as always!
The shame is that MTH doesn't make these in Premier class with Premier class features. I would have bought one of these CNJ units, maybe two, but the price was too high for a second rate model needing all your modifications, plus 3RS modifications that you're not undertaking. How many more units might have sold, with even greater profit margin, had this been a Premier unit?
Mel, that corner of the 12' x 8' turned out quite nicely considering there was no room for a town.
Don, the new hospital would qualify for Tall Buildings Tuesday.
