Alan I chuckled when I saw your first photo.  I thought, "Only Alan would consider a grain elevator a small project."  Once I saw the sign and phone number I realized it was an equipment rental in Nassau County.  Bob hit it right on the head.

Pete a great harbor scene and an incredible mid 20th century rural town make for one fantastic layout.

Trying to transform a somewhat finished layout from a large eastern city to a more rural city in Vermont. The O Scale flats in place are only 4 or 5 stories tall which is okay. I had HO flats in the background which would imply a large city. I also wanted to incorporate a little more operational switching moves. All the tracks had passenger platforms and shelters. Some trackage got re arranged. You can see the shinier rails. I built a couple of lower buildings that wouldn’t dwarf the tracks.  I needed a background more than just blue sky right to the benchworks top. I looked at commercial ones. If you know what you want and hang them first. They’re fine. Added later. Most times they don’t fit exactly what you have in place. My walls aren’t the smoothest. So I figured   I’d try painting a background in fall colors. I’m certainly no artist. They sure make it look easy on You Tube. The base is done and needs some finishing up. The buildings are in place. The HO flats I had. I look at it with and without and will decide. Looks like I could use a little green in spots.

I like to take pictures. A lot of times you see what needs fixing more so than just looking at the real thing.

Bob,

I built this for a customer that lives near East Setauket. I wanted to use Kelly green on the trim and saw a Sunbelt catalog in my office and decided to cut the logo out of the book. It was a fun project.

Coach,

The grain silos in the background is another project for the same fellow. I just painted everything and will assemble today and tomorrow. I will post it next week.

Thank you Pete and Dave for your contributions.

Peter,

Here are a couple of pictures that hopefully will show you how I reinforce corners and join them when I scratchbuild styrene structures. This method can be used on any kit structure also. My method provides reinforcement to try to prevent warpage. By cutting styrene strips and making sure the pieces are cut square, I can maintain the squareness of a structure. I do this on zlorber kits also but have to use dissimilar materials and CA glue and a glue gun to secure reinforcement. I hope these pictures illustrate the method.20220227_19490320220227_194910

Just finished up a job with multiple storage tanks.

Don't know if you can zoom in however look at the 'DIESEL' text. This was cut out of adhesive backed vinyl on the Cricut Maker 3. The neat thing about it is no decal 'ghosting'.

The 'Shell Oil' is a decal. You can see the outline of the decal along the top.

From now on I will be cutting all text on adhesive backed vinyl. I have also just ordered adhesive backed printable vinyl. I am going to try this stuff out in place of decal paper. I have an on going post about the Cricut machine -  https://ogrforum.com/...-1-16-basswood-walls
