Cool. I was going to send you an email on the variations and still will. I have no idea, but I am guessing the bulk of interest will be in the Phase V or later paint schemes.
Once Scott gets a sense of where reservations fall, that will likely determine the extent of variations being done. I was aware that some of these were P32AC-DMs and were slightly different. Also, NJT's were actually PL42ACs produced by Alstom and they are a different tool having the fluted side panels. They did have four P40DCs that were ex Amtrak though which is what will likely be produced unless there is a flood of NJT orders which is probably not likely.
While I was no longer living on the Jersey Shore when the Genesis locomotives were going into service, one might be interesting to head up my NJT Comet cars to with my F40PH and ALP-44.
Ive got some books and stuff here. Also have an N scale set of basic drawings for an SDP40F. If you're working with Amtrak I'm sure they have may have better ones.
The bolt on nose modification was done sometime in the mid 2000s as they went into the shop, so they all would have come out in Phase V. It was done to facilitate some kind of electrical upgrade.
I guess williams did some primitive superliners in full scale back in the day, but since the "good" K line ones were only ever done in phase IV, I suspect you will see some Phase III orders for superliners, and P42s to go with it. I wont pretend to know how to slide tool the nose, but look at it as analogous to an F unit with 1 headlight or 2... might need to investigate doing it both ways. The antenna arrays have grown over time too. Choose your road #s from photos, as some of them have gained ground planes and things on the roof that not all of them have.
If you ignore the promotional paint jobs (the Post Office, Big Game Train, Heartland Flyer, the Toyota Truck, Good Morning America), you've still got:
Phase III (P42s were all solid stripe)
Phase IV
Phase IV Northeast Direct (dark grey roof, logo on bottom of nose sides)
Phase V Early with the blue and red frame stripe
Phase V with just a red frame stripe
40th Anniversary (Phase I, II, III, IV)
50th Anniversary (Phase I, Pepsi Can, Midnight Blue, Phase V w/ 50th logo, Phase "ALC-42")
