 I've got a double lobed cam on an axle of the rear truck and a single lobe cam on the front. Seem to get correct stuttering and chuff of the real deal. Maybe I should use 2 cams on each axle. The sound board can become confused.  Let me know what you think.

The exhaust chuff rate doesn't sound right to me, nor does the whistle sound. The exhaust doesn't seem to be 4-chuffs per revolution on either engine, hard to figure out.

That's what I was thinking... another sound card, possibly just a stand alone system, like a Trainsound or RailSounds Lite set.  It can just be track powered and not needed for horn / whistle / bell.  This would save not only space, but also duplicated electronics with features that will just be wasted.

Ok, I've tried every permutation I mentioned. Multi cam, different cams, and different wiring. With just the two lobe cam it gives perfect crisp 4 chuffs per driver revolution.

 

So, I'll get a lite sound card, as Mario suggested, to make the other truck work. Maybe I can mount a small speaker in the boiler for four of the eight chuffs. That would be sweet.
