Could this be the addams family layout trackplan?  Kinda looks like it or a variation of this?1209650_1_x

Seems to have an outside loop, the corkscrew turns up to the elevation with the blow out bridge.

Seems addams is slightly longer... also longer to permit that spur.

The tv footage was shot from the other side of this...

That looks like the Lionel Display D-264?

It's pretty close. Obviously no mountain on the Addams layout. Unless I totally missed it.

I think this is the Adams TV show layout.

That is the spanier article...  only thing is i never found the remote switches to ever be problematic though...  the were very robust as i recall.  I rigged the non derailing feature as a slave with another switch for programming alternate routes.  I dont ever recall having them give out even after heavy use for 10 years...

It was factual lionel was close to offering a 'service run' of curves and straights about 16 years ago...  and that was after fastrack came out...

I had two Lionel Remote Super "O" Switches growing up and never had any problems either, although avoiding bending the pins while connecting to the track, or, disconnecting from the track could pose a modest challenge at times.

As to the reissue, it was my recollection that Neil Young had expressed some joy online as to the possibility of such a reissue.

Additionally, didn't Coil Couplers conduct a survey as to which Lionel product should be reissued by Lionel, and Super "O" Track topped the survey?

Yea.  I think we were really close to getting some service extras as a test of the water.  The samples i have were from test runs.  There was some clean up needed, but probably the tooling is gone now.

Dennis, did you ever make it out to my train parties at the old super o layout?  Been so long i dont remember...  i had samples there in my case...

Hi Bob,

I do have a recollection of the samples that you have from the test runs, and the fact that some clean up was needed.

The wide radius curves that you had made by hand were totally unbelievable to me at the time!  Years before, I had taken down my Super "O" layout and completely rebuilt it with GarGraves track to run some brass Williams locos that required 0-72 curves.  I had never seen such gorgeous track as the track you had used on your layout.  Super "0" makes an impressive layout all by itself , but with the wide curves you had assembled, the layout was quite a sight.

BTW, what is a "service extra"?

Ok, im getting old.  Job stress and teen daughter stress has wiped my memory...  yes i has some samples.  The lionel guys said to test interest in super o they were thinking about making some for service and let us order them, to measure interest, but not put in regular catalogs...

I have had some of my superO for many years and today on my 16x5 layout I use SuperO. I always liked the looks of it since I first saw it.

I also still use all original components and parts when I built my layout. It is 100% original superO track and components.

I also use dcs and TMCC to run my trains, a mix of old school track and modern trains. I even have wifi and everything runs great with no operational issues.

I have talked to Lionel a couple of times about the resurrection of SuperO track, they always wanted to test interest but between you me they were just going thru the motions.

I agree.  I think they thought it was just me asking over and over, but it wasnt.  I didnt even know about the Clyde Coil thing at the time or contribute a vote.  Super O was the most requested wishlist item... There were alot of people who wanted a more scale lionel track system.

I see this as a different product than fastrack.  I see it as similar to an atlas track system where there would be NEW switches all different configurations and wide radius track for the model railroader, not just the carpet-railroader.

I was hook line sinker over all the scale engines and rolling stock lionel was doing.  I just could not understand buying a $1,000 steam engine and building a layout out of starter set system of track...  there is a huge gap there.  I wanted a scale track system from LIONEL.  Not atlas, or old gargraves...  even  MTH has scale track system...

Fastrack is a great introductory system...  but its not for a railroader who wants to ballast in with scale color ballast and have ladder feeder yards and all the rest of it like high railers do.  I felt the community was large enough to support it.  Although fewer, we are the guys making the 30 x 50ft layouts using miles of track.  Not just a small 4 x 8.

Case in point, i have a new friend who got into o this year.  I had him getting some wide loops of fastrack just to get started...  then he has seen videos of high railer layouts with uber realistic track.  Now he wants that as he also got a number of scale engines.  Lionel has nothing to offer this guy (and he is the guy with deep wallets)...

I have wanted a complete system of high end track from LIONEL.  Super o appeals to the postwar guys and scale guys...

It has always been this way...  there was always a cheapie o27 track and a higher end alternative...  o gauge track O31/O72 track;  there was t-rail track as a high end alternative from lionel (with fishplates!)...  and in 1957, Super O was the new dream track system designed in the heyday...

Sorry this turned into a SuperO manifesto, but this was the thought and argument behind a scale track system by Lionel.  Now we have $3,000 big boys with depleating coal and whatever else on horizon...  and only have starter set track from lionel for them!

I think they just didnt understand the difference between a model railroad CRAFTSMAN who builds permanent and large hirail layouts and the average hobbiest who does a 'carpet central' around the tree each year.

You and i know super o looks really cool and has some great performance, especially for larger layouts in electrical performance...  even after all these years people still want it.  When people came to my old layout and actually saw High grade condition super o, they loved it.  All anyone really sees today is totally tarnished coroded super o in a old cardboard box at shows...  its not the same look at all as new condition.

Oh well, back to bed...  you all had me going again!

"Service pieces", I read that as individual track pieces vs being in full production. Like remaking box cab pantographs for spare parts vs for a production run of 520s.

Yup, that was exactly the thought.  I think they had tooling for curves and straights, why not pop off some extra service track and let the old super o guys get some fresh pieces as in spares, not a new track system.

Would anyone know the identification of the car being pulled by the locomotive in the top photo please?

Looks like a Poultry Dispatch car , either the one with the guy sweeping out the crap (3434), or the non-animated ones (6434).

If memory serves me well, wasn't the layout shown drawn in living color on the back page of the 1957 Lionel catalog and track plan on the inside of the rear cover, designed for Super-O when the track was first introduced?  In my opinion, this is the finest layout ever designed for indoor layouts, period!  It would work well in other scales as well!  When I was tinkering with the idea of going into Z scale in the 1980s, I even considered using this plan!

Why hasn't some company obtained the rights from Lionel to produce Super-O today?  Made in the USA is understood of course!!!

Hello All!

Can someone recommend a place or person that can build these buildings from this scene from the second season of The Addams Family 1965-1966? The ones that are pointed out by the arrows. I know these in the photo are made of bits of 2X4 lumber, but I would like mine to be hollow so that they can be lighted. Also, using real scale windows & doors on them to enhance the building's details. The first building has the BIG GALLON sign on to of it, with the sloped roofs on both sides. The second building has the Lionel canisters sitting on top of it. Please let me know if this can be done.

I humbly thank you all in advance and hope to hear back from some of you soon.
