This is my current track plan. I recently added a second TIU because I needed a lot of blocks in an area due to lift-out bridges and other cases which created those blocks. After reading Barry's book, I see another option would be to run wires from my other TIU to a remote terminal block, and then branch from that location.

So, my question is: Would removing TIU #2 (an L model), moving it to location TIU 1 (an older TIU), and then just running a wire from say VAR 1 (with DCS on and set to FIXED) to the blocks at TIU location 2 be a better solution? I can use the older TIU to make an engine programming area, sell it etc. Additionally, I can dispense with Super TIU mode and whatever problems that causes.

Downside is that I will no longer have an AIU in location TIU 2. I can leave a transformer there for aux power since the area is fully wired with a common ground, etc.

This is a new layout, so now is the time to figure this stuff out...

Thanks,

Mike

How long can you extend the AIU cord? Is regular phone wire acceptable?

Just guessing, for one AIU, probably up to 30'. Yes, regular phone cable works.

I double checked the AIU Trouble Shooting and found
"AIUs Don't Respond
I have multiple AIUs daisy chained
together, but the accessories on the last
AIUs in the chain do not activate properly.
Remedy
Make sure you are using the AIU/TIU
cables included with the AIUs. While
other cables may look similar, they may
cause voltage drop and drain off too much
power for the signal to reach the outer
AIUs."
