super turf

I have a tree that someone else made and used super turf on. It looked so good that I bought some super turf. I opened the package and the material feels very brittle and the clumps are small. I expected them to stretch easily to give a mroe sheer looks but they tend to rip.

Does anyone have experience with this material? Is this normal or did I happen to get a bad bag?
