thinking about incorporating a system on my layout. What are the basics? I know a certain amount of track etc. Are the vehicles expensive? What about the control or power pack. What is required to operate? Any info would help. Thanks

Check the prices.
My TMCC TrackMobile works great on SuperStreets, even 016 curves.
But I can't say about other vehicles. The TrackMobile has normal O-gauge center rail pickups. I don't know about the vans and trucks.
Check the prices.
Many dealers sell for less than Bachmann's list. Try Trainworld or Wholesaletrains instead. Right now D21 curves are hard to come by. Most dealers and Bachmann are out of stock.

SuperStreets had the same problem D21s were always out of stock and if Bachmann does not get clue and ramp up production of D21s, the system will be handcuffed.
I'm still searching for a few D21 pieces!!!!

Two current D21 sources I know of: Nicholas Smith Toys (a separate website for the toy store which has a few trains and EZ streets and Superstreets) and Wholesale Trains.

I definitely agree that Bachmann would be well advised to devote more attention to this track (street) line. My personal opinion is that they are missing a great opportunity by not assuring full availability of long-existing items and, beyond that, expanding the line with switches and perhaps even wider-diameter curves.
I agree that given the clearance issues trolleys have and the apparent strong demand that a D26 option would be welcome.
