Summary:  On install of a Super Chuffer II, I have an unresolved fault, I get multiple "chuffs" on each cycle of the chuff switch after installing the Super Chuffer II as shown in the following video:

 

The Locomotive: K-Line K3380-3768G PRR "Torpedo Limited Worlds Fair Edition" Engine w/Tender equipped with Lionel Railsounds and TMCC, listed in the 2002 2nd Edition K-line catalog as part of the K-1204 PRR "The Torpedo Limited: World's Fair Edition" (see: http://www.legacykline.com/app...amp;p_oem_sku=K-1204)

The electonics package is setup on a Rev A Mother Board: BLK61947

Now, lets review the stock out of the box configuration and behaviour:

 You can hear the chuffs fall out of time starting at 16 seconds, and it really falls apart at 21 seconds.

I have confirmed that there are no issues with the wiring.

I have 3 remaining possibilites:

          I should connect the Super Chuffer circuit to the +5vdc feed from the motherboard (J9 Pin 2)

          The switch is bad - although I had the same issue with the a Chuff Generator

as a side not I am not using the headlight ciruit, (H1-P3 & H1-P4) nor the onboard ground H1 P7 on the Super Chuffer II

 

Any suggestions as to causes?

I'm confused about the grounding issue.  I normally tie the Super-Chuffer ground (pin-2) to frame ground, and when I use the Chuff-Generator, I return all three wires to the Super-Chuffer.  That insures there is only one common ground, and that's never been a problem with a ton of installations.  I will say that the proper ground is KEY to proper operation of these products, or almost any electronics in your trains.  I do know that the Chuff-Generator is somewhat picky about the ground being good, if you have a floating ground and connect power and the chuff signal, it can take out the output port on the C-G processor.  The Super-Chuffer is normally fairly robust, it takes quite a bit to fry them as a rule.

So here is what I learned.  Grounding the Super Chuffer II (Super Chuffer II, Header Pin 2) to the locomotive frame creates an issue with the ground that yields miltiple chuffer each time the chuff switch cycles.  The locomotive frame is electonically isolated fromt he tender frames.  The motherboard inthe tender is isolated from the tender frame.  The pickups and the grounds form the tender wheel sets both route directly to the motherboard.  To get a ground that allows the SCII to work properly in this locomotive only works by using a cournd that routes back to the motherboard  - eventually the R2LC Pins 3 & 4.

 

The electrical theory/physics of this I won't claim to understand but I have resolved my chuff issue.  Here is my schematic for the wiring attached for use under a creative commons license:

I have a new issue now, the fan for my smoke unit does not run when connected to SCII Header Pin 6 as per the directions.  It does however run when connected to SCII Header Pin 7.  I have reached out to GunnerRunnerJohn directly and will add the resolution to that once I have gotten it.  I fully exepect to find out that the fan fault is the result of my work and rework around the chuff fault, just as I wacked the Chuff Generator diagnosing the chuff fault to date.
