Good Pop. This reminds me of a Christmas in about 1952. Unlike John, my dad knew nothing about trains. He bought me a unloading flat car and a crossing gate. He and his friend set up the crossing gate on our Christmas layout around the tree. He apologized to me when I started running the train. He said the crossing gate was "working backwards". He had the gate crossing the tracks and thought it was to stop the train. Of course it went down and the train hit it every time the train went around. Don

Thanks everyone. We had a great weekend running the new layout. He also got a new to him Lionel 2046. This is what 3 rail O gauge is all about... We ran conventional, TMCC, and DCS all weekend long. I have been longing to build a scale layout recently, but nothing can top the feeling of spending time playing trains with my son.
