Many have seen the quillable whistle feature on some MTH Premier steam engines. I just received two new Premier diesel engines from the 2019 v1 catalog and was very surprised to find a SPW soft key (Sound Play Whistle) on the DCS remote for both engines. Having many MTH diesels, this is the first time I've seen this feature. I've not read or heard MTH discuss this and a search of the forum did not find a topic. So here you go, folks...
The 20-21152-1 Dash-9 Diesel Engine w/PS 3.0 - Norfolk Southern (AC44C6CF) -#8520 (Red nose) lists "Playable Horn Sounds" under the Features tab on it's MTH webpage. Unlike the steam quillable whistle which can sound like a wounded duck, the diesel "playable horn sound" is quite good and works very well with the DCS remote thumbwheel. I can't speak to the control on DCS WiFi since I don't use that system as I prefer the tactile feel of the remote.
FWIW, I did an advanced search on the MTH site with the key words "playable horn sounds". Below is a photo from that search. There are 120 Premier engines beginning in the 2019 catalogs that have this new feature. This is quite a surprise and really adds to the play value of the newer and more expensive engines. The sound package on my red-nosed NS Dash-9 sounds better and different than previous Dash-9 sound files I've heard. I gotta tip my hat to MTH for this new SPW feature.
