Surviving ALCO's

In a recent Trains issue they discussed the NYSW's power that the WNYP had from them, and I believe they have them all (Just confirmed from text messge from my cousin at the NYSW).  They have what was left of their 636s and 430s; the 636s in red and the 430s going into black, as they're painted.

Hi, Henry.

 

Plans call for the former L&N FA to be repainted as the Lehigh Valley 596.

 

Here's the ex-LV 414, a C420, which was recently returned to service:

 

 

Note one of the former D&H RS-3s is the trailing unit.

 I remember reading about the C-430's going to the WP&NY.

 The C-636's, the last I remember reading was that one had "water damage" (apparently the cooling system was not drained when it was in storage - either radiator or block damage - never learned what it actually was). With these units being ALCO Demonstrators, it would be cool to see at least one of them restored. I believe the other demonstrator was scrapped in Canada (I don't know for sure).

 LV 414 - can't remember why it was OOS, but glad to see it's operating again. 

Once again, kudos to the D-L shop forces!

 

 Has LA&L added any new ALCO's to their roster? Several years ago I recall that the RS-1 was OOS. Was that true? If so, did they get it back into service? 539T's sound awesome! One of these days I will get up to see these great units! The drive from Delaware would be worth it!

 Thanks for the video. 3000 started life on BCRail, then with General Electric. The red and gray from GE still looks nice. I am not sure if it has made it to 'corporate colors' yet.

 

I saw these Alcos in action south of Rochester NY in July 2011.  

 

Lots of in service Alcos (mostly C420's) on the Arkansas & Missouri out of Springdale, AR.  Sometimes in a consist of 5 or 6 units at a time on the hills of northwestern Araknsas and southwest Missouri. Can also be found on their southend at Ft. Smith, AR

Back in 2010, I started a thread about diesels of fallen flag roads which were still in service. As I posted about information about specific locomotives, I'd provide links to pictures or videos of them. There were lots of ALCo units included. The thread was about six pages long but I had to stop updating it in January of 2012 as I was dealing with family matters which prevented me from putting in the necessary time to keep the information timely and accurate. The majority of it is still correct so you may want to peruse it as time permits. The company has been gone how long?  And the RS engines keep chugging on!

I live 3 blocks away from the shops in Scranton and am lucky to hear the horns echo up the hill.  I have a lot of photos of all of their engines in and around the area if you would like
