Today I watched a show on the History Channel describing various failures. One segment dealt with a train derailment due to a swing bridge misalignment. What caught my attention was the real railroad bridge was hinged on one side and swung open and closed like a door. That made me wonder if such a thing has been done for model layouts rather than a swing up or down or lift out bridge opening to pass through rather than having duck under a fixed span? I don't recall seeing this idea in magazines but doesn't mean it not been done.

I swear I've seen at least one, maybe two like that here on the forum. Somebody did one on a curved corner. Looked really nice and smooth. Wish I could remember who for you.
Maybe my memory isn't so bad. Here's one, about halfway down the page.

Cape Cod,
That really looks great! Good way to move it out of way. And I assume you have an interlock to keep your $2K Lionel Vision engine from plunging into the canyon?
In addition to the other very nice ones above, forum member Clem K has one that was posted a while back. Swing Out Opening

That's the one I was really thinking of.
Like yours, I have always liked Clem K's layout, that is what jolted the old memory.

Budget does not allow for any $2K engines on my pike but yes, it is interlocked.
