Hi there Switcher Saturday crew!

For the uninitiated, Switcher Saturday is a weekly thread where we celebrate the smaller locomotives that do the big work of railroading.   If you like teapot sized steamers or modern road switchers, you can generally find switchers of all shapes and sizes here.

The only requirements for this thread are as follows,  keep it positive,  keep it somehow Switcher related,  and follow the Ogr tos regarding pictures. All scales and gauges are welcome here.

This week the kids went to school

After feeling a little bit older, I realized its time to get serious about this year's Halloween layout.   So with that in mind, here's a lionel Southern RS3, with some aliens and some candy in tow.

20210827_223113

There's a lot of new rolling stock for this year's display,  so the yardmaster will be busy getting ready without disrupting the revenue trains.

So please share your stories and pictures and videos.   Have a great weekend everyone 😀

@MELGAR, @trumpettrain you guys are unreal. I have this recurring fantasy that I will be able to sleep in on a Saturday, but I don't want everyone to wait for the thread to start so I hot publish right before I fall asleep.   I never really expected anyone to have amazing contributions ready in the middle of the night!

Also between the kids and the dog, sleeping in is purely delusional.

Here's a long shot of 2102 kicking some hoppers around just to stay Switcher related. 20210819_120942

Very nice photos, Skip.

Happy SWSat!

Off to another great start. Welcome back Mr. Z. Our youngest is a senior in HS this year. Early for him is 9 AM. Should be interesting getting him out the door by 7:15 this Wed.

Back to switchers. Got a couple of Beeps and Geeps this week. Still running the ATSF so I added my Lionel GP-9 to the layout this week. It's an MPC model, but it runs nice and smooth, growl and all!

jhz563,

Switcher Saturday is the high point of the week! What topic could be more deserving of prior preparation? Sleep is overrated.

WOW you guys really get up early to get your wonderful pictures posted! It's  not even 7am here yet and I see some post were made 9 hours ago! LOL

but back to switches, You all have some very impressive switchers and stories to go with them! I don't have anything right now, but after coffee I will get out there and see what the guys have running today!

Wow, it’s only 9:45 AM EST and I’m late to the party!  Too many great posts to comment on individually today, but I enjoyed them all.

Today’s featured railroad is the Central Railroad of New Jersey (one of my favorites, despite being a life long MA resident).  Camelback ten wheeler no. 763 has stalled due to a valve gear failure.  In a scene reminiscent of TALES OF THE DOCKSIDER,  CNJ GP7 no. 1524 has been dispatched to tow 763 to the roundhouse.  Both these engines are MTH models.  Is it already a year ago that Mike shocked us with his retirement announcement?

Well hello and great pictures everyone.  Trumptrain that was quite a video, super thanks!  John- I was fascinated by the level of detail on the Reading Camel Back, quite a loco for sure.

Well everyone is talking about a lack of sleep and no wonder given the events of the last few weeks in the world.  So in preparation for a more robust defense if needed, the military contingent around "Small Town" on the L&S is moving up some defensive fire power.

Here is the Lionel (MPC) 8300 2-4-0 bringing up some missiles out of storage to the missile base just outside of town.  He also has charge of one of the Air Forces, mobile rail launch cars just in case the missile base gets attacked.

Lionel 8300 missile train

Not to be outdone, the Navy up from Savannah wharf and the river port brings in a reconnaissance aircraft to keep a look out for those terrorists!

RWB trains 2

Have a good weekend everyone.

Another great SWSAT.  Thanks to all who posted.

JHZ now you know how much we all look forward to SWSAT.  Glad you took up stewardship of this thread.

Patrick, great video.  I've got that same ACL tank car but don't have the heart to weather such a beautiful paint job.

LeRoof,  glad you found a few minutes to check in.  I hope you're well and not being worked to the bone.

Coach Joe! Thanks for the acknowledgment.  Yeah I am doing ok, it ain’t the work, it’s the stress in these times. But on a happier note I will have a 10 day vacation in mid Sept. maybe get some train stuff done. Bucket list is overflowing!

hey maybe this year we can go to WestChester Toy  and Train show and hang out a bit!

have a good one.

That would be nice but, unfortunately, I heard that the Westchester Toy and Train Show is no longer.
