Happy Thanksgiving everyone!  With turkey day behind us high season of the toy train world is upon us!!πŸŽ„β˜ƒοΈ.

So here at Switcher Saturday we celebrate the smaller and nimble locomotives that do the big work of railroading.   Juice Jacks and 0-4-0's, GP, SD, Whitcomb, Baldwin,  FM, modern units from specialized builders such as Brookville, and Republic, they are all welcome here.

With that said its time to pull out the Christmas Express Switcher from a few years ago. RR management has things a bit out of order as the motive power has arrived before the right of way has been laid!

So please share your photos and videos,  and have a great Thanksgiving weekend!

This has been a very busy Thanksgiving week so this photo and video are from the archives but have not been posted previously.

Boston & Maine #117 is an MTH Premier PS3 model of a General Electric 44-ton diesel-electric locomotive. It’s just the right size for the oval of track and Atlas O-54 curves on my 10’-by-5’ model railroad, on which I run small locomotives and short trains at slow speeds. The caboose is by K-Line.

#117 was the only GE 44-ton locomotive built for the Boston & Maine during World War II. It began service in August 1942, had a maximum speed of 35 miles-per-hour, and was powered by two Caterpillar V8 engines of 180 horsepower each.

Good morning, SwSat folks!  Today your Yardmaster found B&M 0-8-0 switcher no. 613 shunting a caboose into a siding.

This locomotive is a MTH Railking model.  It was originally equipped with Locosound; the late Marty Fitzhenry converted it to PS2.  I have detailed it by painting the handrails/driver tires black, installing a coupler cut lever (a Lionel Mogul part) on the pilot, adding an engineer/fireman and gluing (white glue, dries clear) on a β€œreal” coal load (chicken grit, sifted and painted by my friend, Dick).

Happy SWSat!

Hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving. I finished my BEEP ERR upgrade last Sunday. Here's some pix of 2003 back at work. Still need to do some tweaking and fine tuning but overall I'm happy with the results.

Happy SWSAT,

Some Pennsylvania activity this morning with an A-5 and a 44 T.

Also, my photo of a Baldwin DRS 6-6-1500 from the Arizona Railway Museum.  Originally built for the McCloud River Railroad, it was built at a reduced weight for light rail.  Later purchased by the Magma Metals Company, it ran in regular service from Superior, AZ to Magma Junction, AZ until 1991.

Happy SWSAT!  Today we have my venerable old CNW H12-44, beat up from fighting the crowds on Black and Blue Friday (a phrase coined by our parish priest) working hard. She's going back to the dock with a cut of empties for ANOTHER  load of dressing as all gathered around the table polished off their first helpings.

Too bad the turkey got knocked out in round 1.

The N&W used mallets on mine runs and to switch coal mines.  Here are a couple photos of my Y6b. IMG_9661IMG_9603

Of course the holiday season has begun!  Here we see the Free State Junction Railway Holiday Switcher rounding the bend at Butler Junction.  This switcher pulls the FSJR Holiday Train each weekend until the new year.  The train is a huge hit with all the citizens of Patsburg!!   IMG_8591

Tom, every time you post your ACY FM I have to throw out a LIKE!  But then I get a lot unhappy as a native of Youngstown I want one but cannot find one,  If I saw it when first cataloged probably dismissed it because the ACK never made it even close to "Murder Town USA" or to Canton for that matter. But sure would like to find one!

Well SwSat Fans, here we area again, on our way to Christmas.  Jhz...thanks for the kick off early this morning.  Thanks to all for the great pictures and videos.  Here are some pictures and a short video of some of my Hornby trains.  The engine is a simple Hornby tank engine that has been converted to electric by back fitting with a Marx 4 wheel drive.  the cars are a mixture of post war types primarily from the 1950's.

It is late afternoon, and a FS10 is moving a car to the classification track.  It came from the local toy factory, so the engineer knows it is full of toys that will soon be Christmas presents for many children.  He sort of feels like a modern day Santa Claus.

The FS10 is a MTH FM H10-44, the freight cars are Atlas, and the J1 is Lionel.

I thought I uploaded this earlier this morning.  Wonder where it went

I know the feeling.  The AC&Y's western terminus was in Delphos, Ohio.  I live between milepost 0 and milepost 1.  I decided early on that I would get an AC&Y locomotive if Lionel ever offered one.  I'm glad I pulled the trigger when I did.  I know the Delphos Canal Commission Museum would like to get one for their railroad display.

I finally finished the second of two MTH AS-16's ( four wheel truck version of MTH's Baldwin AS-616 )

DSC02162 crop

904 was built using a 16 Ga. (0.050 in) sheet brass chassis and RS-27 running gear, 900 was done with SW-8 switcher trucks and fuel tank, and RS-27 parts modified to work with the trucks.

The CNJ didn't have any AS-16's but did have a similar Baldwin RS-12 ( #1207 ) that was painted in the blue B&O styled scheme      ( when they thought they might merge with the B&O )

Jet - fabulous job on both locomotives!!!  Thanks too for the back story!

Hey Gang - just wanted to say everything looks amazing, as usual!!

I hope you all had a good Thanksgiving weekend.  I just missed the snow flurries this morning for a more dramatic shot, but here's a Republic locomotive unit spotting coal cars at work.  As usual - THERE'S NO ONE AT THE CONTROLS!!!  Okay its a remote unit, yes the horn, bell and couplers work from the remote, no there is no station sound recordings!
