It's #SwitcherSaturday time!!!!

Lots of us out there love switchers (shifters, docksiders, yard goats, critters, etc.), so lets keep #SwitcherSaturday (a.k.a. SWSAT) rolling!

If you missed last week's SWSAT you should really go take a look, it was a ton of fun!

This week at the Murnane house...
Pepper-The-Dog is watching over three little switchers on my hollow door layout! She said "There's nothing like the smell of switchers in the morning!".

Rich, Very nice. How long did it take to get Pepper to pose for you? Thanks for getting up early to get this on track again.

My contribution is another Pennsylvania Railroad B6sb switcher. Here is #4090 showing some age,  circa 1955. She was built by Juniata in 1916 and retired in October 1956.

Yay SWSat is on!

Nice layout and roster Rich!  Tom nice color Pennsy picture.

I am very excited about the WBB 70 tonners they just announced. I know I've posted these prototype images before but I'm just happy to see this.

The Tropicana one has my name on it. I used to enjoy seeing the Juice train fly down the RF&P when I was younger. It was never led by this little guy but the paint looks great. I posted this pic years ago and am happy to see it show back up in O scale. There are a few differences it still looks pretty good. I've always been a big fan of this little GE switcher series.

Hi Guys- Happy SWSat!

Not much activity on the RSJ&B this week. With the weather getting warmer (UGH- yard work), and the CEO's project dragging on haven't had much time for the trains. I did finish up installing my grade crossing signals though. I re-post of some photos of the construction and my PRR 0-4-0 on the maiden voyage.

Happy Switcher Saturday!

I really prefer to talk about true switcher locomotives on Switcher Saturday, but I’m running out of models for subjects, so a diesel road-switcher will have to suffice for this week…

Pictured below is my MTH model of an unusual locomotive – Boston & Maine BL2 1550 – shown with K-Line B&M wood caboose 104331.

The Electro-Motive Division of General Motors built 59 BL2 diesel road-switchers between 1947 and 1949. These locomotives were designed for light traffic and frequent switching duties on branch lines – hence BL. They were powered by an EMD 567B V16 engine with 1500 horsepower and had a tractive effort of 56,200 pounds. The BL2 combined the power and speed of a mainline road engine with the visibility of a switch engine. It was not very successful as a switcher because it lacked the full-length walkways of a true switch engine, which made it difficult for brakemen to move around the locomotive during switching operations. The B&M owned four BL2s equipped with steam generators for passenger service.

MTH announced this model as item 20-2316-1 in their 2001 Volume 2 catalog at an MSRP of $369.95 with Proto-Sound 2.0. According to their website it was delivered in August 2001.

Also, while we're on the subject of switchers....did you folks notice all the new offerings in the recently released MTH catalog?  Wow.  A plethora of options for the switcher enthusiast, to be sure.  I'm definitely ordering the Pgh. & Ohio Central, the Conrail, the RJ Corman....maybe more.  Hard to narrow it down.   They really came through for us switcher guys this time.

Sure do Dave!  I had the engine for about 20 years before I finally found a cheap enough tender for it.  For some reason you seem to see a lot more of those engine's than the tenders.  Anyway, I had to steal some trucks and couplers off an AF boxcar and still need to repaint and letter the tender.  It works for me though.  The last shot was during surgery to get that blasted prewar Flyer E unit to work.

Way back in the days of engineering school (sliderule days) I made and sold scenery materials for train layouts. Patrick, without question, you have defined the fine art of texture!

Great find Dave. My Dad had the same set from when he was a kid. We still have them packed away in their attic. Can't wait to see them all bright and shiny again.
