I've always liked the looks of the BL2. Although I don't own any, I wouldn't mind having one maybe in the Rock Island livery. I have never thought that it looked like an ugly duckling.
The BL1 had no external differences from the BL2. The differences were all internal, the BL1 had an air-operated throttle and no multiple unit connections which were both soon changed.
