It's #SwitcherSaturday Time!!!!

Lots of us out there love switchers (shifters, docksiders, yard goats, critters, etc.), so lets keep #SwitcherSaturday (a.k.a. SWSAT) rolling!

If you missed last week's SWSAT, you should go take a look, it was lots of fun!

Today at the RiCH RR (Richmond, Chesapeake, Hudson Railroad) we a little old MTH dockside/tanker switcher trying out a new shelf, which is going to get mounted on the front of the portion of my layout where the yard is. I saw a few layouts on facebook where folks had shelving like this and I thought I'd give it a try. I need to figure out the mounting of the shelf (today?),  hopefully I can find some nice and sturdy hinges so I can have it open/close to get access to the storage behind it.
Once I get this one figured out I'll make two more for the main section of my layout, though those might be a couple weeks away.  Overall  the shelf came out OK, I'm certainly no carpenter and need more practice.

Speaking of facebook, on it I've joined a couple "groups" which are fairly active in posting pictures of trains.
The "New York Central Railroad Fangroup" and "Pennsylvania Railroad Steam Locomotives" are two of my favorites, here are some pictures I grabbed from those groups and more this week for posting here so you guys could see them.

Last up, earlier this year you might recall that my uncle suddenly passed away and I traveled up to New York a few times to help out.  Anyway, the other day my sister sent me this picture of Uncle Jimmy "The Mop", taken probably 20 years ago or so (location?), it's too good not to share with you guys.  Uncle Jimmy "roamed" anywhere from Pennsylvania and New Jersey, up to northern New England, and over around "upstate" New York, so it could be anywhere in the northeast corridor really, maybe one of you will recognize the engine.

I hope everyone has a great weekend, have some switcher fun and when you get a chance - please post some switcher stuff here!

All the best...Rich Murnane

p.s. Miss the post on Saturday? NO BIG DEAL, just keep posting pictures of your favorites until the next #SwitcherSaturday

Happy Switcher Saturday everyone.

Rich, thanks again for hosting us. Good luck with your shelving project and your new Facebook groups. Uncle Jimmy "The Mop" looks pretty cool. Glad you have a nice picture to remember him with.

Melgar, that a nice looking cabin car/caboose.

My contribution this week is my prewar #228 taking a spin on my workbench layout.

So  I decided to make it one of my favorite switcher lines last night “Indiana Harbor Belt”. I repainted the shell decaled it and replaced the headlight lenses. I left the stripes off they were just to busy for me. Enjoy the pics

Happy SWSat

I'm back after an early start this morning to run my daughter to the train station. Her sorority was walking in a Walk for St. Jude event in NYC today. They are # 4 in fundraising for the event at over $11K. Great job girls!

Great stuff so far everyone as always.

This week NYC S-2 # 2321 is spotting some REA cars including my new Menards flat with panel truck (got the free lighted Hummer too, not the one in these photos).

That is a beautiful Cabin Car. There is one about 20 minutes from me needing some TLC. It was being used as a visitors center, then the city lost interest. A local art studio owner bought it and has plans to restore it.

But this is Switcher Saturday not The Cabin Car Times...

Good morning fellow SWSAT friends!!   I really am enjoying the photos and info you guys have shared here!

Rich - shelving looks very good!  My dad was a master carpenter, unfortunately, I did not inherit the carpenter gene   Thanks for sharing the photo of your late uncle Jimmy posing with that tank engine ... which looks like it has had a pretty hard life on the railroad.    Where was the photo of the Western Maryland freight led by two RS3s taken.   Was it on B&O trackage?  I know the WM had trackage rights in parts of West Virginia over certain parts of the B&O... just wondering if this photo is in West Virginia?

French trains - that certainly is an attractive 4-4-0!!

MELGAR - great museum pics!!

MikeCT -  nice looking steam switcher!  Is that a B6?

BillT - nice photo of the end cab switcher at the grain elevator!

TNKMARX - very interesting photo of the CNW switcher shell being transports on two gons!!

Yesterday, while hiking up on the Mountain Division of the Free State Junction Railway, I captured these shots of a Maryland and Pennsylvania SW 100 pulling pulpwood train. Also a Plymouth industrial switcher at the lumber camp.  I was also able to shoot a Reading Train Master as it exited North-  Easterly Tunnel with a long mixed freight.   Lots of switchers on the FSJR.   Have a wonderful weekend everyone!!  IMG_7705IMG_7713IMG_7715IMG_7719IMG_7721IMG_7723IMG_7778IMG_7733IMG_7762IMG_7759IMG_7763IMG_7742IMG_7748IMG_7754IMG_7769IMG_7735IMG_7734IMG_7791IMG_7793IMG_7773IMG_7738IMG_7737IMG_7751IMG_7706IMG_7711
