Here's my WbB D&H GP-9. I just rewired it in series last week. It runs much slower now than it did before. It can be considered a road switcher now, not a street racer.

C&O NW2 switcher No. 624 and caboose have just pulled into a shop siding.  The workday is almost done and the crew is shutting her down for the night.

This pic took me clear back to me as a teen reading in Trains Magazine about this tiny shortline in Eastern Pa that a group of volunteers had recently saved from the scrapper. One of the photos accompanying the article was of the only motive power on the Strasburg at that time: this tiny Plymouth switcher.

Good morning switcher fans!  I'm enjoying all of your info and pics   JHZ563 thanks for notching out the throttle and getting us rolling today! Great photos!    Andy ... got to love that caboose within the autumn surroundings ... I love the 44 tonner and the high hood switcher!   Lou great to see the switching activity on the Plywood Empire Route!  RSJB - got to love that D&H livery .... beautiful!  Johan - I love your FM hood unit H - 10-44  and your scenes radiate superbly detailed reality  Sorry if I missed anyone who posted during the time it took me to put post together this morning.  

Today on the Free State Junction Railway, I'm featuring two switchers.  The classic EMD BL-2 of the Western Maryland and a freshly painted C&O  0-8-0 by Lima Locomotive Works.  Both are captured performing  their various switcher duties on the Free State Junction Railway.   I hope everyone has a terrific weekend!  Be safe = Be well!

WM BL-2 number 81 is on the team track as the crew has spotted a WM horse car full of race horses destined for Patsburg Downs Race Course. 

Bursting out of East Tunnel number 81 is at the point of a freight train. 

Passing a GG-1 which is about to come to a full stop at the station so passengers can board its' train. 

C&O number 75 making it's way across the grade crossing as Ed, the headend brakeman protects. 

That's Jake the brakeman riding the footboard, fireman Kent is on the ground near the cab stretching his legs.    Dispatcher says it will be another 20 minutes before a green signal.

BL 2 number 81 idles on a siding. 

BL-2 and GG-1 meet at the station.

With whistle blowing and bell clanging, number 75 takes the grade crossing.

Hello everyone, what great SwSat pictures today, thanks for posting.  Well today, the film crew decided to track Leonardtown and Southern local freight job to get a few "on the line" pictures.  The switch job today is using a leased Southern RR GE 44 ton, one the fellows favorite engines. L&S management is so cheap, they don't even repaint it, it used to have a cardboard L&S logo sign under the cab but we lost that last rain storm!  The boys like it though because it easily handles the tight clearances, is reliable, stays on our sometimes mediocre track, and seems to run all day on the morning fuel up. 

Here we go, first thing this morning we stop all the traffic in small town as we pull our consist out of the local delivery yard track.  This is the first step in distributing the cars.  As usual, we tie up traffic trying to get to McDonald's for breakfast or over to the Red Owl for coffee.  Too bad folks, gotta make a livin!

Out by the suburban freight station to leave off a REA car that will be unloaded later for some package delivery, then reloaded with stuff to ship out tomorrow morning.  Oh yea...there is another reason for this stop.  Charlie the brakeman on this route had to "use the necessary" before getting underway again. 

Well, you don't see this very often...its a "switcher traffic jam".  Out L&S local takes the hole to make room for a UP delivery to the Door and Sash factory off to the left.  Once that UP S-2 clears we can get on our way again.  Hoping to get over to the diner for lunch (Saturday is hot roast beef sandwiches as the special) and then tie up for the day in time for dinner.

Don, its the same sort of thing on the Plywood Empire Route! Management was too cheap (and some would say....lazy) to repaint the SW1500. In the right lighting one can see the US STEEL lettering through the hastily applied black cover-up paint:

Yes, it is less than 100ft above the ground because on landing approach. The runway is a couple hundred feet to the right. There is a sailplane club at the airport and any nice Saturday the tow-plane spends several hours towing them aloft. You don't want to come in too low in one of those things.....you can't grab a handful of throttle, pull back on the stick and circle back.

Here’s the very newest addition to my fleet, Lionel’s latest Alco S-4. Beautiful.  I haven’t had a chance to give her her legs yet as I just picked her up from The Train Shack in Burbank, CA yesterday. 

Oh the stories our switcher crews must share after a day on the tracks!

jhz563: You bet!  I enjoy watching Strasburg Rail Road's daily action on Virtual Railfan.  It's just a click away on their own website.  If you get lucky you'll witness Amtrak passing the Strasburg at Leaman Place (Paradise) while S R R's power is running around their excursion train as they prepare to return home. 

An honest to goodness "bonus" is when you can catch S R R (x-NYC) SW8 swapping freight cars at the Norfolk Southern (x-PRR) Paradise interchange.  In addition to operating their well known passenger excursions, Strasburg also conducts a very successful freight business at their namesake town, where they maintain a transloading facility. 

A logging operations SW1 switcher locomotive at rest next to the simple sanding platform facility in the woods.

One of my regular stops on VRF's site. The SRR is a very busy railroad for sure. This time of year all of the corn is being harvested and shipped out to market too.
Friday I caught 475 shunting some cars at the end of the day before heading to the shed.

If they could add another camera at the west end of the yards it would be perfect.
