Wow how time flies by.  Welcome to another Switcher Saturday,  solidly into October already.   Switcher Saturday is a weekly gathering of those who appreciate smaller locomotives that do big things.   From road diesels to docksiders, miniature goats to great big transfer locomotives, switchers of all scales and gauges are welcome here!

I hope to get past my other giant list of chores and get the Halloween layout display put together soon, so here we have a load of spooky pumpkins being spotted by a custom painted lionel 4 wheel diesel.

As for me, it's outage season at work again.   So if I am not as active on the thread during the day, please don't take it for apathy.   The posts you guys make blow me away week after week.   I am probably working every Saturday until Thanksgiving.   Keep up the awesome contributions and I will try to keep everything going too.  Thank you as well to all those who offered to start the thread when I cannot.  I will likely be taking you up on that over the next few weeks.

Happy SWSAT everyone. Yes John it’s been awhile since I’ve been here. The only thing I have to offer is a video of my Weaver RS3 that has been broken down for a bit. I think I fixed the problem so I gave it a test run. I still have to put some more details on it but here you go. Be safe use your head out there these days and have a great weekend.

On the PER, as well as it being all switchers all the time it is all switching all the time:

TALES OF THE DOCKSIDER

You asked for it - back by popular demand - NYC shop switcher X-8688!

This Saturday the B&A has brought a cut of flats with military vehicle loads to the B&A yard in Worcester, MA.  X-8688 has been assigned to move the flats to the B&M yard in Worcester; the B&M will deliver them to Fort Devens in Ayer, MA.

X-8688’s crew is honored to have been chosen to make a move that will help to maintain our military readiness.  It makes them proud to be Americans!

Good morning fellow switcher fans!  I've really been enjoying what all of you have already posted   JHZ563 - thanks for notching out the throttle and getting us rolling this morning!

Today on the Free State Junction Railway we follow a Ma & Pa switch crew on their SW 1 ( a MTH PS3 model ).    Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Be safe = Be well!!

As number 70 idles on a siding .... it crew waiting for the conductor Jack to bring the switch list, Jake the brakeman is on the rear deck, and Barney, the engineer catches a little morning sun on the front deck.  IMG_4590

Conductor Jack is back with the switch list and the loco has backed onto a siding.IMG_4593Here are Jake and conductor Jack as the loco gets ready to couple to a gondola load of scrap.

IMG_4602

The orders are to move the gon to track one in the yard.  A B&O GP9 waits on a red signal. IMG_4605

Barney, the engineer,  eases on the throttle as he  backs number 70 and its scrap loaded gondola through the switch onto track one.  IMG_4607

With the first switch move completed there is more work to be completed. IMG_4609

Number 70 pulls forward after having set out this REA car load of fresh produce. IMG_4562

The N&W Cavalier is about to pass on the mainline.  Number 70, out of view, has pulled ahead and waits for the Cavalier to clear.  Turns out a J class 4-8-4 with the number 611 on it's cab is on the point of the Cavalier today.  IMG_4544

Number 70 waits in the hole as the might J is a bout to zip by at 90 mph.  Just another day of working on the railroad for number 70 and her crew. IMG_4548

Yes, leaf-peeping season is a busy time on the PER as well! A third car is added and the Dinner Train becomes the Lunch Train and makes four runs on Saturday and Sunday:

The mountainsides are nearing peak color:

And the Lunch Train runs are full of hungry patrons:

Of course motive power is one of PER's venerable  Jack-of-all-trades SW1500s:

Hello everyone...great pictures, Trumptrain I love the stories that go with your pictures.  Geysergazer the pictures of the PER are great, thanks for posting.

Today, is a big day on the Leonardtown and Savannah, management (cheap as usual) has found out that some of the Class 1's are actually getting rid of STEAM ENGINES- can you believe that?  What's important to the VP of Engines on the L&S is that these perfectly useful engines are available CHEAP!.  So the L&S management is hosting a few small steamers on the site to see if they would work out.  Our tight radius turns and close clearances in the harbor area mean its only the little guys that work for us, so they have hosted two of the Class 1 (excess) engines for trial.

Here is Lionel # 8903 from 1979 , on loan from the Rio Grande.

Here is the engine and caboose from the 1979 Lionel "Black River Freight"

Lionel BR Freight set -train

Here is a close up of the caboose the Rio Grande had to send with their light engine move.  Its a Lionel 9077 Rio Grande caboose available from 1976-79.

Lionel BR Freight caboose

A little closer to home for the L&S is this 2-4-0 from "big brother" the Southern RR.  It is Lionel # 8314, still resplendent in its green "Southern Streak" paint scheme.  The "Southern Streak" was actually Lionel Set # 1353 from 1983.

Lionel SS engine & tender

Here she is getting ready to pull her caboose for a light run out onto L&S trackage for testing.

Lionel SS full train

Here is a closer view of the caboose, Lionel 6486 available from 1983-1985.  (Note to collectors...odd fact.  The Lionel (MPC) set reference I have lists the Southern Streak caboose as the #6434, which IAW every car reference I have does not exist...so the real caboose offered with this set remains a mystery-input desired!)

Happy SwSat everyone...Best Wishes for a great weekend and thanks JHZ563 for keeping us going!

Early Atlas SW models did not have TMCC electronics, or speed control.  Great conventional operation, horizontal motor.  This, Dallee controlled model, (?? 1998??),  was upgraded to TMCC with used parts.  Maybe one of the first:  How much can you cram under an SW hood???, models.  Note that original speaker was under the upper hood vents, front of the model.

Dallee board, and speaker.

Two part, Train America Studio, TAS  mother board, and Lionel generic components, R2LC board, Sound board, Sound driver board.

Speaker was moved to the fuel tank.
