Switcher Saturday -Mark II, 10-26-19

Happy Halloween fellow switcher enthusiasts!  This is your weekly thread about little engines that do big things.

Okay, this is a lousy photo, I tried to grab a wedge shot of the Strasburg diesel switcher while on the move last week, it didn’t work, but I did get the Reading camelback in the background.

Here’s my girl on the handcars.  Not so much a switcher, more of a little critter!

Okay, this is the total opposite of a switcher, I just like the picture!

Now we’re on the right track- Lionel docksider posing in front of the haunted mansion!

Now it’s your turn, so try not to make a frightful mess of things like I did!

As usual, there's a few simple rules for Switcher Saturday:

1.This threads welcome switchers of all sizes and sources, such as 12" to the foot, live steam, HONGZ and of course 3 rail O gauge.  If it's related to switchers (model switchers, prototypes, critters, switching yards, switching layouts) - we want to see it! Videos, Pics, Stories (true or fictional), poems, whatever! 

2. If you miss the post on Saturday? NO BIG DEAL, just keep posting pictures of your favorites until the next #SwitcherSaturday. If you missed last weekend's post - check it out here.

3. Keep it friendly - we want this to be fun. (we haven't had any real problems with grumpy trolls, I'd like to keep it that way)

4. In regards to compliance with the letter and spirit of the OGR tos, this post is in the photo album section as the subject is switchers and small motive power.  Three rail O is the common medium but anything from prototype through Hongz, grand scales, live steam etc is welcome, as long you took the photo yourself or have permission to post it.  Feel free to post a link to something cool.

Very nice photos it's great you were able to involve your children in the great Strasburg experience.  

I tried to get a video of a Amtrak switcher in action yesterday but it's not to good. 

It's not hard to catch a switcher at work on the Plywood Empire Route.

Morning finds the day's train arriving from Interchange.

Switching the Paint Factory.

Done with the day's switching work it's time for the Dinner Train.

Second seating patrons now boarding the Dinner Train at the old Depot.

Two New England diesels. Boston & Maine EMD SW9 #1223 is an early Atlas O diecast switcher. New Haven Alco S-2 #0617 is a recent MTH Premier model with PS3.

I ran across this in the Wikipedia Glossary of North American railway terms:

"Butthead or Butt Head

GM Electro-Motive Division model 'MP' or 'SW' endcab switching locomotives"

Anyone ever heard of this term? Unfortunately the citation is now a dead link:

Here's my new to me LIRR RS-3 by MTH with PS-2. It's pulling a RMT Caboose.

            Atlas O Texas & New Orleans GP9 and T&NO caboose at NJ Hirailers.

With exposure to the inner workings of railroading since about 1970, and being a retired Certified Locomotive Engineer that has experience spread over several states and several RR's and subs: Nope. Never heard that one.

I've always heard them called simply "switcher(s)".

At the risk of offense: Really sounds like a railfan-originated term to me.

You guys are killing it with the beautiful fall type colored switchers. Why drive around and look at fall Foliage when you can stop here and enjoy the colors great job.

Thanks Lee- this paint scheme came out in the early 60's. I've seen it referred to as the "Worlds Fair" scheme.

thanks for the info on the RS it reminds me of the Coca-Cola ribbon But it’s still a beautiful engine and caboose I’m gonna have to get me an RS 3

Hi Guys!  I'm late to the party this week.  My wife and I just got back from vacation a few hours ago.  We went North Carolina and Tennessee where we rode the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad and drove through the Smokey Mountains.  BEAUTIFUL fall scenery.  I'll post some pictures here next week.  Have a lot of unpacking to do and then I have to download the pics from the camera.

BTW...Great pictures, everyone!

Melgar, rsjb18- love the LIRR Dashing Dan.  My father grew up on Long Island and always liked seeing that logo again.

GeyserGazer- please tell us more about that scenic line.  I can't quite make out the name.

Glad you enjoyed your trip. Yesterday  was our 22yr Anniversary and we spent our Honeymoon in a Cabin in the Smokey’s it was beautiful first day we was there it snowed about a inch in the Mountains. See ya next week 

Congrats on 22 yrs!  My wife and I hit 16 years last weekend.  We went to York on Friday so tonight dinner and drinks was all about her!

Thanks John and make it last your on a roll. I took Belinda out to her favorite restaurant yesterday evening then she wanted to go Christmas shopping with her mom and sister I didn’t care I had a long day at work anyway then she came home with this from Menards for me. She is so thoughtful. I’m sure I can get buzz to pull it next SWSAT and show it off  see you then.

It's the Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum. The volunteers staff  a museum in the old Depot in Lenox, Ma and operate a weekend tourist train between Adams and North Adams. The trains run on the remnant of the old B&A Pittsfield-North Adams branch, most of which is torn up and is now a railtrail (the Ashuwilticook).

Well here's another Sunday at work, started my day with switcher Saturday mark 2 this morning over coffee at home. I ran my newly acquired  PW Lionel 1615 around my layout this morning while emptying out my  basement dehumidifier at 5a.m. Careful not to spill the water or the engine on 031 near edge of table! Need to continue to bank the curves in a couple of spots. Lol

Melgar, very  Nice equipment as always. I have never seen that LIRR RS 3 in those colors! That ultraviolet blue really stands out. 

RSJB18, Bob, now that "new greenport scoot power" LIRR RS3 will look great on the upper level of your layout, passenger service or freight with the C75 caboose. Is the k line MP 15 in retirement?

Sawdust43, hi Howard,I have an  Identity Question: who makes that nice structure behind army Switcher and JC Penny box. Brrrrr, reminder that winter will arrive fairly soon! Nice photo.
