Hello again fellow flanged wheel enthusiasts - Welcome to the third edition of Switcher Saturday - Mark II !

This is a recurring weekend thread dedicated to the little loco's that make big things happen.  As with the original thread, if you prefer yard goats over mountains, an A-5 over an Allegheny, or a S-2 over a Dash -9, then you've found the right place.

Once again proving that bigger isn’t always better, is my favorite little 4 wheel diesel.  This guy is painted to represent a loco at the Reading Society of Model Engineers, where I spent a great deal of my younger days.

Please check out the RSME at their website.  The inspiration for the paint job on the model above was work engine RSME #10.  While not well represented in the 15" gauge photos, if you saw it in person you would get the idea.

If you missed last week's thread, feel free to check it out here.

As usual, there's a few simple rules for Switcher Saturday:

1. If it's related to switchers (model switchers, prototypes, critters, switching yards, switching layouts) - we want to see it! Videos, Pics, Stories (true or fictional), poems, whatever!

2. If you miss the post on Saturday? NO BIG DEAL, just keep posting pictures of your favorites until the next #SwitcherSaturday

3. Keep it friendly - we want this to be fun. (we haven't had any problems with grumpy trolls, I'd like to keep it that way)

4. In regards to compliance with the letter and spirit of the OGR tos, this post is in the photo album section as the subject is switchers and small motive power.  Three rail O is the common medium but anything from prototype through Hongz, grand scales, live steam etc is welcome, as long you took the photo yourself or have permission to post it.  Feel free to post a link to something cool.

Pictured below is my Atlas O model of New York Central SW8 diesel switcher #9620 with an MTH Premier NYC bobber caboose. Small locomotives and short trains such as this look best on my 10’-by-5’ single-track branch-line railroad on which the track is just an oval.

The Electro-Motive Division of General Motors produced 309 SW8 locomotives for U.S. railroads between 1950 and 1954. They were equipped with an EMD 567B 8-cylinder supercharged two-stroke diesel engine which developed 800 horsepower.

hey wow its always a pleasure to see switcher Saturday again.

nice entries from everyone.

Hi Stangtrain the UP SW 7 looks great on your upper level.  happy  it is well lubricated.  I do have a question not entirely off topic, just related to  your photograph. So,  about the side girders on the trestles. I wondered how you affixed them and with what kind of adhesive you used. thank you for any guidance.

My father-in-law was born and raised in Youngstown (1916) before moving to the big city of Cleveland. His wife used to tell everyone that “Nothing  good ever came out of Youngstown.” They were married for 60 years but had their “issues.”

A dear friend serves as Rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church in downtown Youngstown today!

Looking great everybody- and thanks for posting.

I am sure I have posted this before, but here’s a center cab unit I saw up In Wisconsin a couple years ago.  The National Railroad Museum in Greenbay is quite the place, in addition to lots of preserved switchers, you can get a Big Boy and GG-1 in the same photo.

Is spelling something still stressed in today's education world?

Is it spelling or typos or Dyslexia or Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome or, or, or!?

Barely- about 1-2 years in elementary school for my two kids (21, 15). Everyone does school work on computers, tablets, etc, now. Spell check fixes all for the most part. Cursive writing is ancient history too.

The real scary part is how many of today's generations write formal papers and correspondence with texting and social media shorthand (LOL, LMAO, etc).

I hope this is ok to post here.  This my live steam 0-4-0 taken in my garden railroad.  Today is a nice day so I thought I would take this photo.  This could also come under a thread of expanding your railroad.  I ran out of room in the basement..here is the result.

Absolutely allowed and encouraged. Looks like fun😃

Thank you for the kind response.  Perhaps I will fire it up in a video as the ambient air gets colder so the water vapor is observable.
