A little project... This building is 15 stories tall, built around a plexiglass core. Facade I acquired online. It consists of four 3d printed sections: the base five floor section with lobby doors, two additional five floor window sections, and a roof deck with elevator room. Lighting consists of LED strips behind the wide part of the facade on two of the sides.

I still need to find some modern looking company signs to go at the top: Initech would be nice. I also need to figure out if I want silhouettes on frosted sheet or build interior floors with endless rows of cubicles to hide most of the interior.

That is one big building Alan. What is it, kit of something, or winging it?

Thanks Dave.  Actually it is a modified building from F.G. Train Industries.  He and his grandson, or could be his nephew, attend York and have these structures for sale.  They are made up of primarily ceiling light diffusers.  I used pieces from an Uber-Arc set on the corners and the top of the building.

Very nice!  I saw these on Ebay.  You spent some on that one my friend!  It looks great and if you put floors in it with details you will have a masterpiece!

Still it is a wonder to be held by the eyes.

Where is everybody????    I'll start today off with this pic:

Nice building again Alan. Well, being that I don't have any, that is my reason. Been busy at work lately, missed this earlier today, and have been hoping like you that there would be more traction on the "building up of Tall Building Tuesday". It seems instead that maybe there is a lot of Urban Renewal going on in cities, so maybe that is why there doesn't seem to be a lot of posting.

We're only at page 11(unless my post jumps it to 12). I thought there would be a considerable amount of tall buildings popping up for Tall Building Tuesday, much like you and everyone else did. Well, I cannot contribute buildings I don't have, however I can contribute buildings I took pictures of, how about that?

This is back from 2017 at one of the Edison Shows. That is the Raritan Valley HiRailers layout and one of their buildings(somewhat tall) in the background.

IMG_20170318_113518267

And since York is close by, how about some tall buildings from October York 2017 to help inspire some more Tall Building Tuesday?

IMG_20171019_122535657IMG_20171019_131833190IMG_20171019_131843643IMG_20171019_131926092IMG_20171019_142020121IMG_20171019_143325208IMG_20171019_155915355

I got more pictures to come up from other shows and such, but I think I will save them and slowly post things to keep this thread moving, if that is okay with everyone. I have a couple other Edison shows of the Raritan Valley HiRailers that show their progress of their tall buildings, and of course some York stuff too boot. 2018 I didn't take as many pictures at York like I did in 2017, think because I was more into running around seeing more of what I didn't see in 2017. Enjoy these pictures, and keep this thread rolling .

I spent about an hour or so going through those pictures as well as back tracking through this entire topic. I had thought about one last photo yesterday, but it was hard to see the tall building through Alan. In October 2017 I had snapped a bunch of pictures on the Saturday morning at the OGR booth. Some of Rich, Allan, Alan, Jim, and Ed(as well as some others). The only picture that had a tall building, was the one where Alan took up the center of the picture because that was what I was focusing on, so it didn't seem appropriate to pop that here as the 5 story building was over Alan's left shoulder(and hard to see).

Next Tuesday I'll run through my photos again and see all of what I come up with. Some things may be the same(I hope not), and some will most certainly be different. I'm trying to remember fully if I had gotten some better pics of the layouts at York the next time or not. I do believe I did get some of the Miller Engineering booth as they did have some fronts for the signs to be popped on top of. Either way I should have a few Tuesdays of pictures before York arrives.

Perhaps some of our colleagues will be ready for next Tuesday as well. If not, maybe I will see if I can get a good blast of the whistle of #60 downtown or maybe I'll bring the old cowbell to York to drive people to post, lol. Until next Tuesday, tall buildings will return. 👍😉

I'm working on an Old Main building that will approximate my college HQ building.  It will have a 10' x 16" foot print and be six stories high.  Three of the stories will be the bell tower, the bottom three will be admin and auditorium space.  It will be the tallest building on my layout.

I'll have it done sometime soon....after six years of fiddling with it.  It's using up a bunch of Pegasus Hobbies gothic war gaming structures.

I'll also be getting a three story Presbyterian church like one next door to one of my childhood homes , an arts center building, and a mausoleum.....and maybe something else.  Lot of parts in those boxes.

Foil backed insulation with detailing tape?

VERY CLOSE ... you get most of the "Cigar"!   This building was made out of a store display column.  I covered the column with 2.5 inch foil tape, floor by floor and then used black auto detail tape for the vertical and horizontal lines delineating floors and windows.

Okay, as promised I am back with more photos I took of tall buildings.

IMG_20171021_092516980Look over Alan's left shoulder, there's that building.

This is from the Raritan Valley HiRailers from the November 2017 Thanksgiving show. Quite a few changes from the last time I had posted their layout. The introduced the Raritan Valley Coal Company. If I am recalling correctly they had had a few structures but not the ones in the last 5 pictures. By the roundhouse, there is that familiar coaling tower, I think either Lionel or maybe a custom build.

Believe these next ones are the newer buildings, one above I think had been there.

Wow, it looks like my next set of photos of tall buildings is all the way in October 2018, which is light as well. I will have to browse some more, maybe I shot some video as well, I don't know. I have to pop over on some other site to post my October 2nd Birthday Bash at Strasburg. I have a ton of pictures and video, some of the pictures I have posted on the Railfanning post, but it is going to take quite a while as I need to get strictly train photos as I did shoot other stuff as well. Enjoy these for now.

Those Raritan pictures are something else.  That group has a beautiful layout and very nice structures!

You got that right Alan. And this is from 2017. Their layout has only gotten more impressive. I always look forward to their layout whenever they're at a show I'm going to. I think some of the members are on here somewhere. I do remember a few years back posting some of the pictures I took and one of them replied. I haven't looked at their FB page in a while as seems I have no time to tend to all my interests, and sometimes I make a note to do so, but forget.

I again, wish to thank each and every poster that shares here. I like this post and I'm attracted to tall buildings on model RRs. OK, I like them all.

I think having things of interest adds to the drama of model RRs. Having a train cross over a long bridge, or going around a big city, etc., adds a lot. Of course, there's great modelers who can make a prairie or even a desert scene look great too. The variety keeps me interested.

Ring ring ring!! It's Tuesday, which means it's Tall Building 🏢🏫 Tuesday! I'm not home at the moment, but figured I would give a holler and see if anyone was tall building'ing. Is that even a word, building'ing? Well, probably not. So where are those Tall Building Tuesday posters that should be posting on Tall Building Tuesday? Did they get lost on Track Team Tuesday, Tail End Tuesday or Ruby whatever her name is? Let's see some tall buildings before I get home tonight. 👍

Okay, I see everyone is still asleep. Dang, wake up, it's Tall building Tuesday!!!!

So, first up from my camera's past pictures is the Toy Train Museum. I am going to save my York pictures for next Tuesday, these though should do nicely I think. We got Lego's, O Scale, Prewar, & Standard gauge buildings, all tall BTW. I don't know if I am missing any category because I am not all too sure what exactly I am looking at.

Enjoy these for this week, see what comes out next week, and then York!!!

It's still Tuesday, and that means it is still time for TALL BUILDING TUESDAY!!!!(echo effect is on and too darn loud).

Anyway, with that out of the way lets talk about York. These pictures, though not very many are from the October 2018 York Meet. Being that this was my second York, I sort of knew where I was going, and proceeded to run around more, and I also believe took less pictures unfortunately. So, lets start off before it because Tall Building Wednesday by the time I upload these.

Hey, that last picture was some of my purchases from York that year. Hmm, sort of tall on the tank, and sort of tall on the other building on the right. Other one, not so much.

Well, that may not be enough, so let's fast forward to March 2019 at the Edison Train Show. We have our good buddies once again from the Raritan Valley HiRailers and their layout.

Some slightly tall buildings from one person who was at that show whose daughter convinced him to try and put his passion into a bit of business. Hmm, I don't have much left from the old photos, well, some are repeats. This is from October York 2019. So, what do we have here? Well, the first four pictures are from the Purple Hall's layout, which if you just came back from this year's York, you have seen this. However, the fifth, sixth, and seventh you haven't. That was a big grain silo at one of the tables in 2019. I don't remember where exactly it was in the Orange Hall, but I knew when I saw it, I had to take a picture of it.

Below the silos was over at the TW TrainWorx booth in 2019. There is Roger Farkash was talking to some of the potential customers about some of their works. Below that is the Schenectady Railway's Art Deco waiting room which was on State Street in Schenectady which Don Klose commissioned them to do for him. I do remember Don talking about it and some of the other historical structures that are on his layout. How some of the town's committee people or some such folks want the buildings.

With that said, there are only a few more old pictures floating from October 2019's York, and a few other pictures I have floating around. Most of the new pictures I have are from this year, the Edison show, and of course, York. I'll post stuff next Tuesday, but in small amounts to make them last.

Joel, that's a very nice downtown.  I see a myriad of construction methods: MTH with extra floors, pre-built tall structures, a couple of different stacks of Ameritowne building fronts (the bank building and the one next to it), a stack of the Plasticville apartment building, and a scratch build out of a mirror with overlays to delineate floors or windows

@coach joe posted:

IMG_20191018_153512Might this grand station entrance beheading to Don Klose's layout?

From another thread I see there is already one of these on Don's layout. I guess TW Trainworx was so proud of how this turned out they made additional ones for sale at York.

Yes it is as a matter of fact Coach. I think in one of the most recent posts Don has out up in think it's in the City Scene's topic, you can see this entrance in one of the pics. Don has commissioned quite a few buildings that are on his layout. I'd post a link to it, but at work and can't at the moment. See if you can find it and take a look.
