Original Post

Folks,  This is a very interesting place and well-worth a visit, especially this time of year due to the proximity of the Smoky Mountains. The weather is great and the scenery is hard to beat!

When Josh first joined our club he set up a field trip to this museum and we really enjoyed it. The proprietor, Dess Oliver is an amazing man who is the Vo-Tech teacher at the school. He and his students have constructed most of the items pictured here in the classroom. The 'steamer' was built from scratch except for the drivers and it's powered with a 1970 Pontiac 6 cyl engine. They drip oil on the exhaust for smoke.

The station has a large collection of RR memorabilia and a scratch-built old time coach car.

This fella loves his students and is a remarkable teacher. He also has a large multi-scale layout at his home and is a credit to the hobby in many ways.

Do try to come out for this event and meet Dess and young Josh and see the beautiful equipment on display and in operation. The streetcar pictured above is almost all made from teakwood and is a piece of sculpture in its own right. The crew also built a steam crane that is almost complete. Lots to see!

The people in the last photo are some of the members of the Smoky Mountain Model Railroaders, Josh's club.

This outfit is self-funded from private donations and admissions. Your help would be greatly appreciated!
