I looking for something different/interesting... something striking... something with lots of detail.

The MTH 2012 Vol. 2 catalog offers the Taurus 3 ES-64-U4, and the catalog picture of item number 20-5660-2 looks like a winner.

I've never purchased a European piece before, and my collection is mostly Premier Hi-rail. The scale wheels Taurus should fit in quite nicely... especially, with all my North American motive power and rolling stock.

BTW, have you ever noticed the superior level of detail on MTH's Premier European rolling stock? I have.

My Scottish, French and English genes are calling for this modern European locomotive.

This unit actually appeared in an earlier catalog, and just "showed up" at York before any sort of announcement that I was aware of.

Having bought the TRAXX F140, I was also interested in this. But since the Amtrak ACS-64 is supposed to be a similar locomotive, I think I'll wait and see if the Taurus gets Americanized as an Amtrak unit.

(though if I wasn't already flush with enough motive power to pull my entire collection I might've considered getting one anyway)

Yes the Taurus is a really neat engine...and the world fatest locomotive at 357 km/h (222 mph). Here a pic of a pre-production model

And will hope that MTH consider making the OBB Railjet Version with the matching cars (we badly need modern 0 scale Euro passengers car)

And a video of the record breaking run of the Taurus...that would be a nice paint scheme as well.

Lafondue,

I agree that the Taurus is really neat, and with so many paint schemes about now MTH should do well for a long time.    I'd like to see the red OBB version with the Italian flag, like #1216, which is cleared for ops in Italy.   Open up another market.   Piko already do it in HO.    The Italian 'In-Rail' version would be good too, as it is approved to work in Italy, Austria, Germany, and Slovenia.

I'm with you when it comes to the Railjet set.  There's nothing in 'O' scale to cover that section of the market.

It was interesting that the video showed the SNCF BB 9004.   When MTH announced the OCEM passenger cars I e-mailed MTH and asked that they make that model loco, or one of a similar class.   I didn't get a reply, but I'll try it again.

There are still more TRAXX that could be done, but that's another topic!

I too would like to see modern -- well, post 1960 anyway -- European passenger cars;  the problem is that almost all of them are 26.4 m in length.  At 1:45, that equates to a little over 23" buffer to buffer -- a full 2" longer than the MTH Wagons-Lits cars, which would I think rule them out for the domestic 3-rail market.  But I believe with the right selection of vehicles, MTH could make them just for the two rail market and still make a good ROI from just the [ primarily ] European sales.   But of course that's not my call, thank heavens.
