I voted to eliminate the 2 sig. rule. When i joined in 1985 it was a p.i.t.a. then. You want new members, then why restrict them from doing it. Come in to the 21st century lady's and gents or die on the vine.
We all know what the rule was for and I don't think it keeps people from joining. There are many who will sign for them. The idea is a good one, helps keep your trains from disappearing off your table and bouncing checks coming back to haunt you.
I just joined and did not find signature rule a problem. I actually found four people who were willing to sign for me without really going out of my way. I think your LHS is a good resource for signatures. I really think if someone wants to be in the TCA they can get the signatures. I've never heard of anyone who wants to be a member but can't because they can't find two members....

Most of the people here on the forum (including me) appear to have the advantage of living in major populated areas or at least where regional TCA officers or members are relatively easy to find that makes finding someone to sign for them not much of a challenge and take for granted.
Not everyone has such luxury. There are some who live in remote areas where the convenience of nearby hobby shops, TCA officers or members and train clubs don't exist. If they were supposed to follow the reason behind the two signature rule to the letter (members need to at least get to know them somewhat before endorsing them) then their chances of getting signatures are even that more difficult. Impossible, no, but certainly not as easy as most here have it. That I think is what some people seem to loose sight of when they posture about how relatively easy it is to get signatures.
I wasn't living near any TCA members that I knew about and easily managed to find two a hundred miles away...so if you are also a ham radio op, it helps too
I am curious. What are the perks that come with joining?
Attending the 2011 National Convention in Sacramento, California was the best perk. I can buy all the other Club stuff at Auction for 10 cents on the dollar. Having a good time is another matter!!! AS for comparing LCCA to TCA, I would not spend a lot of time and space praising one/bashing one as a lot of us are members of BOTH clubs. For example, Lou Caponi has been a contributor to both clubs for decades!!!
