NOT SHOWS, MEETS

And I almost labeled the post as such, because from 9 to 10 am it is a TCA member only Meet.

But in my eyes, after 10 am when it opens to the public it becomes a train show. And given the large percentage of people with only a casual interest - because they are dragged there by someone else, or curious hotel guests looking for something to do, I rest my case.

Perhaps the Shrine Center's remote location will pare the crowd down to only the previously indoctrinated. But wait.... that means less exposure to possible newcomers to the hobby.

I was hoping it would be down in Washington again.  An easy drive and casino afterwards.  The cost of renting room space at these hotels must be outrageous to cause them to move again.  I remember going to the place out in Monroeville many moons ago - I think that ended because the hotel was knocked down?  Hope to make it there.

Desert Division has two shows and around 18 meets between the Division and the Rio Grande Chapter per year.  That doesn't include the 2 to 3 public auctions we hold every year.  The Rio Grande Pumpkin Meet (show) is the last weekend of October and always fun to buy or sell.  I don't mind the 6 hour drive to Albuquerque. It's relaxing and an easy drive.  Desert Division has our meet (show) at the end of November or in December depending on hall availability.

The meets are members only, but a guest can always attend a meeting a year and TCA member is welcome to attend anytime.  There is no shortage of opportunities for TCA sponsored events in this part of the world.

I also am sorry to hear the Fort Pitt meet will be going to the Syria Shrine Center! Last March I attended the meet in Washington Pa., for the first time in over 20 years and sold all but 2 small items from my table! And I sold quite a bit! I had hoped to return at least 3 more times as I am trying to thin out my "Hoard" and allow someone else enjoy the trains I had purchased over the years....   Oh well, Old Uncle Al

I guess whether a location is remote or not depends on where you live.  Living in Butler, I found the Washington location too remote to make it worth the drive after church.  The Cranberry location is the closest (45 minutes) to me than any location where a show, meet, sale, convention had been held.  As I stated above, the Syria Shrine is the same distance to me.  It is accessible from The Turnpike and Rt 28.

However, it doesn't matter whether it is close to me, a casual looker and occasional buyer.  I would think the Fort Pitt TCA is looking for a location that brings in the most people; sellers and serious buyers.  Also, I would think the management of the venue would be considered.  I have no idea how the management of Doubletree is to work with and what they charge compared to when it was Four Points Sheraton.

Im looking forward to the Fort Pitt meet!
