First off thank you all for participating in this wonderful hobby and helping out a newbie like myself. During this whole, quarantine, wild fries, layoffs, murder hornets, ect, dumpster fire of a year, this place has been a huge comfort to me, so thank you all for just participating!
Sorry for the long title but I am not sure how else to phrase my question. This post is in direct response to my last post about my new EM-1. I think that title did not get the attention I wanted.
My original question was, I got this new steam engine, what is this detail on the side of the firebox.
Answer, thank you again @Naresar, Over fire jets.
Yes I tried google but the issue is if you don’t even know the name of the thing, in this case over fire vale. Typing into google thing mounted to side of steam engine fire box will not yield helpful results.
I have a few train books, but they identify more general parts for locomotive, steam dome, valve, ash pan ect. But I would like something with a lot more detail, exploded diagrams are great. I want to be able to look at a diagram and go OH that’s what that is called. Once you know what it is called than you can learn what it does.
Question:
Can anyone recommend a book or on-line resource that can help me identify part of a steam of diesel locomotive??? I want to be able to figures some of this out with that crying for help, not that I have anything against asking for help.
Book recommendation, magazines, websites, youtube channels or any other resource are welcome!
(My wife just pointed out to me that maybe its better that I not have all the answers at hand, and that by asking these questions on this forum I am participating in the community and there for making content and helping other people to engage as well. Sometimes I can tell if she is the smartest person on earth or relay good at gaslighting me!
