Hello all; Can someone tell me what the two plumbing lines just above the front trucks on the Santa Fe 5011 class tenders are? They are on both sides so I am guessing one is for water and the other fuel, but I do not know which is which.  atsf5021-2.jpg (700×524) (steamlocomotive.com)    Thanks

Being an oil fired locomotive, there would be many different "plumbing lines" between the engine and tender, such as:

1) Two large diameter water lines, one on the Fireman's side and one on the Engineer's side.

2) One hard-piped with many flexible joints for the fuel oil supply.

3) Various flexible air hoses for the independent (loco & tender) air brakes, plus the train air brake.

4) If so equipped, a hard-piped with many flexible joints for the train line steam supply (for passenger service)

5) One or two hard-piped with many flexible joints for the steam supply into the fuel oil bunker in the tender (keeps the Bunker C fuel hot).
