Hello I have the older NYC J-3a Hudson from 2001. It has 2 speakers in the tender that are 16 OHM 0.5 watts. The sound quality is not that good. The newer one from 2004 has 1 Fat Boy speaker in it, which is 8 OHM 1.0 Watts. Would it damage the electronics in my tender if I replaced the original speakers with one or 2 Fat boy speaker's. Thanks

No problem as long as final impedance is 8 ohms. Lionel offers both 8 ohm and 16 ohm 50mm Fatboys if you have the room.
I have 5433 on the layout now. Sound is OK but don’t expect Legacy sound with a speaker swap. Most of the deficiency is due to the RS4 card.

Pete without knowing the model number of a set that would have 16 OHM fat boy speakers. Do you know of any way to search for them on the Lionel website. Thanks for your time.
A little configuring of the search box on Lionel parts.

but the 16 ohm 50mm fatboy is out of stock.
Looks like Boilermaker called it. 16 ohm Fatboys are past tense. You can still get 40 mm baby Fatboys in 16 ohm. Might only be a marginal improvement over what you have or stick with an 8 ohm single 50 mm Fatboy.

Thank you guys very much for your input, I will have to give it some more thought. Who knows maybe the original speaker, or speakers are damaged. Possibly from someone turning them up too loud. The tender almost has a rattle sound in the speakers when you press the whistle. The stock speakers are only $12.50 a piece. I could try the baby fat boy speakers, and also order a pair of the originals. Or I might find that there was nothing wrong. And as Pete said, it could be the sound quality produced by the RS4 card .
I have been using these lately. Better frequency response and sensitivity than a fatboy and about the same size.

Wow thanks Pete they look Awesome speakers. But do they have speakers like them in 16 Ohm ?
You can get great sound from two of the 40mm fatboy speakers in a decent baffle, look at the Lionel Vision Line tenders.
I believe that particular one is only 8 ohms but the better sensitivity may make them as loud as two fatboys. Worth a try anyway. Thats a good company to deal with.

What is the rating on the fatboys that Lionel uses?
