Pingman, thanks for yet another great picture.

Based on it's unique window profile the second car is once again the Star Dust coach running in it's usual early position and orientation; "backwards" in that the Astra Dome seats will be facing the rear of the train.  With it's name plate at the left end the window profile rearward of the door is  short, long, short, short, then three low long long windows beneath the Astra Dome followed by two higher long windows toward the right end..

In contrast -- the only other car which is similar is the Dream Cloud sleeper.  With it's name plate at the right end  -- the Dream Cloud sleeper also has the three low long horizontal windows below the Astra Dome.   But it is proceeded at the left end by series of 5 windows in a low, high, low high, low pattern.  Then the three low ones under the dome and then two long low ones

Thanks again.

Hi Bill,

You have good taste in the engines you choose.  Yellow, blue, silver, and red are my favorite colors.  First train I bought was E-6 City of San Francisco.

Only wish I had was to see the GM track off to the left with the camera following.  Any chance we'll see that trackage in an upcoming video?

I'm thinking of changing from Woodshire to Zephyr; then we'd have the alphabet covered A thru Z.

Yes Mr. Bill  That is a kline observation. awaiting conversion to 2 rail trucks. The sell off that Erik Lindgren posted about  has a number of conversion wheel sets available but after multiple emails with no response I'm a wondering? MR. Lindgren does your friend want to sell any of her dads stuff? Cause she returns absolutely no emails ? also I'm not the only one to say this I think Pingman is interested in her Kline UP stuff and has had the same lack of response.

Thanks, marker. And thanks to all who have made a positive contribution to this topic.

Woodshire Bill.  Thanks. I plan to do more videos after I have improved my video-ing skills.

aterry11.

Aat the risk of hijacking my own topic,  I thought I recognized that COLA observation because I have that car and the rest in that "set".

I've converted several of the K-Line 21 inch aluminum cars to 2 rail using the K-Line by Lionel 2 rail blister packs offered several years ago. I bought up a large number at a good price.   The trucks side frames in these blister packs are black.  So you either have to paint them or just swap wheel sets.  This is the easy part.  The more challenging part is building Kadee coupler pads for them as some of the cars need about a 1/4 inch built up coupler pad and then shims too.

These cars may not be as "correct" as the Sunset/GGD cars, but, I really like them for what they are.  Well built, excellent paint and generally representative of the fleets they emulate if not exactly model.

And since K-line has been kaput for years the 21" versions are increasing in value and may even be collectible (only 3rd Rail/GGD is offering (more prototypically correct) passenger equipment at anything near this price point.  Well, except for Atlas O if one can stand the wait (I can't). So, good luck in converting these nice cars.

Mr. Bill,  Wished I would have jumped back into trains when the Wasatch were offered and I like the Des Plaines with the corresponding work required, take your time and they look pretty good.  You have all 11 Kline UP cars?  You should post photos or video. Some folks have never seen all of them especially in one train.   I found that a cheap tripod helped with photos and video I think I paid 5. bucks at the thrift store for a plastic one, works stupendous..

To get back on topic, the new Classic Trains Special Edition No. 15 "TRAINS of the 1940's" arrived in my mailbox yesterday.

Starting on p.58 there is an excellent article with color pictures titled "Postwar Steamliner Dreams" that has several pages of info and pictures of the GM T of T in the original GM blue livery.

Talk about timing.  How did Scott pull this off.

If you didn't pre-order this special edition I'll bet you can get one from the website. Or maybe your local hobby shop if you still have one.
