Has anybody ran a tether between their F-3 AA units? I am doing a TMCC conversion and the TAS boards I have won't fit in the powered A unit. So they will have to be put in the dummy A with a tether to the powered unit. First problem is I can't find an appropriate sized plug to use. Most seem too big. Second, I can't see a clean way to feed the tether through the shells. What can you recommend?

Contact Chuck Sartor at O'nly 3-Rail and pick up some MTH diesel tethers.  They have 10 leads in a nice compact package.  Some of them are heavier for power and motors, others are small for lights and the like.  $18/set for the male/female combo.  These are straight tethers and look great between diesel units.  

 

I just used one of these to do a PS/2 conversion for a pair of Williams A-A Reading units.

 

As far as feeding the tether through the shells, for the powered engine, I mounted the connector behind the door and cut out a neat square hole the size if the connector.  It's recessed so that the shell doesn't hit it, I made a 90 degree bracket to hold the connector.

 

For the trailing unit, I just notched the frame and shell enough for the cord to come out, similar to the way most steamer tethers are done.
