Can or could anyone tell me what type of whistle T&P #610 had? I'm having a hard time finding info about it... How many chimes is it? Also could you find me a link to the actual sound that's has a fairly clear sound feedback or something extremely close to it?

Thanks Guys.

Bringing back an old thread

I came across this video here yesterday of #28 sporting T&P 610’s Whistle (Hancock longbell 3 chime)

It be nice if Lionel would have more of a “selection” of deep toned whistles.

Yes, that's it, but take into account that its being run at a much lower pressure (185 vs 255).  There is a bit of a difference.  Per an article in Trains on the 600s (and 610), the prototype for the whistle was a Nathan whistle with custom sliding pistons in the Marshall shops that was subsequently tuned to a minor chord.  Quite a few T&P classes ended up with the same whistle style.  610's whistle is pretty distinctive as there is a squeak in there.  It's a very nice tone when it doesn't break into the squeal.

You can hear the whistle on some of the 610 videos.  It also wore a whistle off a Southern Ps4 at various times as well from Bill Purdie's collection.  That Ps4 whistle ended up on probably everything Southern ran in the steam program at one point or another up until about 1980.

I's not a Hancock whistle, the bowl on #28's whistle is too deep, and the cuts at the bottom of the bell are different too. Hancock used a thinner bowl, and there were no distinct cuts at the bottom of the bell. It does look like a three chime long bell, but the bowl looks more like a Nathan. But like so many other roads, T&P could have made their own whistles.
