My C & O Hudson started having issues with intermittent chuff and smoke output. This was always when it entered a curve and there was no change in speed or interruption of the whistle sound (you could hear the chuff cut out and see the smoke stop while the whistle was constantly blowing).
I did a search on the forums and found several instances of similar issues, most of which were wireless drawbar/tether related. Many people, including MTH technicians posted about the problem, at least in some cases being resolved by replacing the tether-GREAT INFORMATION!
I swapped out the drawbar to the shorter one which came with the engine, and it cured the problem.
