Okay, first off, this is not a request for “Atta Boy” responses on my article.
I would like to publicly thank Allan Miller and his fine staff for a great experience getting my layout article into run 304 of the magazine.
It was a very trouble-free experience (I’ve previously dealt with editors who I'm sure were bi-polar in what they wanted) dealing with the magazine and getting text and photos to where they needed to be.
Allan got a very nice proof out to the authors well in advance, made the changes I suggested and they all did a great job with the page design, layout and photo placement. I was very happy with the results. A co-worker who has seen most of my magazine work commented that he really liked how it all ‘popped’ in comparison to other articles I’d had published (both in model train and non-train-related magazines).
Best of all, I just got a grouping of issues in the mail yesterday, something they didn't need to do as I feel I was already compensated very fairly for my time. I've started handing a few of the copies out to friends who have helped me out with the layout from the start.
This has been one of the most enjoyable experiences getting published I’d had in a long while and the results looked great. I have been published plenty of times over the years and I haven't had the "wow, cool" reaction I had from seeing run 304 in a very long time. It reminds me why I still write every now and then.
Thanks very much, everyone at OGR!
