Another derailment for CSX making 3 in one week.

Not surprising.
Early last month I crossed the CSX track here in Portsmouth Va and noticed when the car in front of me crossed the rail popped up out of the crossing about 6"-9"!!! I didn't see a phone number at that crossing, but did find one at the next crossing and called them.
The piece of rail is STILL loose, went over/around it yesterday!!!
As of 330 today there are still 3 well cars being rerailed. The eight cars mid train derailed just west if the hump tower as q004 was departing. They appear to have hit another train (see the damaged box car behind). Csx spent much if last night moving the rear and front if the q004 and getting it on the move again. Crews are working under some of the worst wether conditions of the summer - severe thunderstorms and record heat. Derailments happen in the yard here all the time, but the location and number of cars in the long train Definately makes this a more significant one, not just a typical switching incident. The q004 is a regular evening stack train which changes crews on its way to New Jersey at Selkirk. Usual this train is around 10000 feet. All trains passing through Selkirk must operate over at least a short stretch of non signaled track. This derailment happened on one of those sections, (the signals are for electric switches here, not interlockings) so the speed was certainly under 20mph.

Who has time for M.O.W., really?

I'd call the state/county , starting with whoever does the roads, the city and state police next. Personally, this actually sounds 911 worthy, More so than trespassing and that's the FRA suggestion on for tresspassing.
You may be the only person to report it. One complaint about anything could be overlooked, mishandled, etc.
Call again. I think that's an FRA number on the signs so call the railroad line too
I call city/county/state etc. about once every 7 years on dangerous potholes in roads. Usually the issue is addressed within 48 hours. if you make it clear you are calling other agencies too. Otherwise the complaints are mostly ignored.

DC Metro surely doesn't.
The National Transportation Safety Board issued similar findings last week while also suggesting that Metro was aware of the track problems in the accident area since 2009.
Had an odd sighting in Pittsburgh Monday evening - 3 CSX units led by a Norfolk Southern unit hauling empty ethanol or crude tankers west on the NS Fort Wayne Line.
Could it be a reroute from a derailment ??
Probably. I was discussing that with a friend and we were wondering if they would re-route. The line closed is a main line for CSX. Not a good day to track trains with the rain showers.

Just curious, was that the NS Erie unit? If so, that was leading K649 through Rochester Saturday PM. That was not a re-route.
