I recall a couple of episodes of Petticoat Junction where the mean brass from the railroad wanted to shut down the branch.  If I recall it seemed to have images of the Santa Fe as the mother road. I used to watch the show just to see the scenes that involved the locomotive.....yes, I was a railroad geek!..... even then.

Yep, as a kid, Petticoat Junction was one of my favorite TV shows, because of the train. The Beverly Hillbillies was another favorite. I liked Jethro's truck! I've liked old cars and old trains since I was born.   LOL

Rivarossi made a 10 wheeler O scale kit in plastic a few decades back, you can still find them now and then on places like EBay.

Some are motorized, some were not. The motorized were designed for 2 rail O scale with a DC motor. I have one I built from the kit a very long time ago, it doesn't have the ability to move much 2 freight cars or a passenger car is about all the traction it has when running on tin plate O gauge. It does acceptably well on tin plate track that does not have grades, switches or crossovers.

Seaboardm2, if you visit the Sierra Railroad and go into the engine house  you will see all kinds of stacks to change the look of the engines for movies. Back to the Future was shot all around the area. I think they shot all the Back to the Futures films at the same time. At one time the railroad made much of their income from the movie business. Gentlemen,

If you happen to be a Alan Hale fan, you can see one of his greatest acting roles in, Desperate Journey, starring along side Errol Flynn & Ronald Reagan.  Alan Hale steals most of the show, with his off the cuff humor role acting, in a very intense film, some of the very best character acting ever filmed, a 1942 classic.  President Reagan's favorite film.

Take the time to watch some of the singing Christmas episode, as the Christmas lighted Hooverville Train, runs down the tracks, it's what I meant by the real announcements for the Hooverville Train.   It would rival the Santa Express big time.

Rusty,

They would definitely need to make it right for me to want it!   The girls voices and all as part of the announcements, would be way cool!  World famous uncle in the cab, his voice also, as part of the announcements.

I always like the one in the middle. They're all grandmas and probable great grandmas now.

Steamer,

Yes I do realize that and was pointing out where Jr's talent came from, did not mean to mislead! Sorry if I did.  Alan Hale was a darn good actor, Robin Hood was decent but not the acting part, as in Desperate Journey.  Destination Tokyo was darn good part for him also.  Jr was a fine actor also but the parts in his era were just not there for his talents.

Well that locmotive was used a lot in t.v.The sierra railroad has many locomotive used by hollywood.I recall a t.v. show called centennial the steam locomotives used were from sierra railroad.I was a kid at the time.

From the useless information department:  Jeannine Riley played the original Billie Jo Bradley-she was replaced by Gunilla Hutton who, in turn, was replaced by Meredith MacRae.  Lori Saunders played the original Bobbie Jo Bradley (I always thought she was the cutest)-she was replaced by Pat Woodell.  Linda Kay Henning played Betty Jo Bradley for the whole run of Petticoat Junction.

This show represented somewhat of a "Utopia" for many people of that era.  It evoked a place and time that almost everyone wished they could actually be part of because of its simplicity and totally laid-back atmosphere.  Of course, we all knew it wasn't real (didn't we ?)

Maybe, it's the socks.

As a five-year-old, "Petticoat Junction" can be attributed as the source of my railroad addiction.   I just LIVED to hear that whistle kick off the show and see the opening railroad footage.  Santa brought me a Lionel set the following Christmas.  The show was good clean fun, too.  Every TV comedy these days is sex-based and/or preaching some sort of social agenda.       A great show!!!

Several years ago I downloaded these pictures off this forum.  Forgot who posted them, but they fit this topic.

There was one taken from a higher angle that showed the detail inside the tank, but couldn't find it.

This one was for sale at York many years back.  Had the ladies swimming.

I know Linda Kay Henning is still doing community theater in California, and I've seen her on you tube doing the shows where people see the stars of past tv shows. She was married to Mike Minor, the crop duster pilot, on and off the show. After the show ended they divorced five years later. Mike Minor died in 2016. Good singing voice he had, too bad he never made it big.

Well she has a fine caboose thats for sure.

The resurrection of this thread was well timed for me. I'm currently working my way through the first season of "Petticoat Junction" on DVD. That season was heavy on train-oriented episodes compared to later seasons.

Add me to the list of folks who would love to see Sierra No. 3 modeled, especially as the Hooterville Cannonball variation, in diecast O gauge. The shorty combine in plastic, too.

Williams by Bachmann's Baldwin 10-wheeler isn't a bad substitute.

Actually the Williams version would need a lot of modifying in order to make it look like Sierra #3. Plus the bell and the sand dome are in the wrong place, so you would need to cut them off and replace them. If you want to go cheaper, I would recommend getting the American Circus Train Ten-Wheeler by MTH. It has the right shape and design as the Cannonball and it has a mural on the lamp, so you don't need to make the mural from the show. It already has number 3 on it's number plate on the smokebox door and the steam dome like in the show. Really the only thing that would need to be done is adding the green and gold paint, painting the boiler black, and the decals for Hooterville Cannonball and C & FW Railroad. I picked one up, and it works and sound beautiful.
