As most of you know Joey Ricard has been posting some very funny and helpful scenery tips. So over the last couple of weeks I have decided to enroll in his free class and put them to the test. I have been weathering more cars lately but want a little dio to take outside. It makes for a higher quality pic and with my main layout in the basement under florescent lights I thought it would be fun to try. We just finished it today but I plan on adding a few little things to it. It is 32 inches long and 9 inches deep. Made of scrap wood and leftover pink foam. All the work was done to Ricards video minus the rock face. The track is Atlas O 3 rail, the center line was removed and the ties grinded down and then scraped to give it a wood look. The center rails can be seen along the RR line. All in all everything worked great, the cheaper the hairspray the better. My wife has a hair salon and was a little @#$#@ at my son and I when she caught us with her high dollar stuff, plus it did not hold the dirt down at all. As you can see the photos that I posted did not upload in the order that I wanted, so sorry for the mixed up photos. Nick

That looks great Nick. Did you use Joey's method for planting the tall weeds with 3M spray adhesive?

I did, The first little group that I started on the grass was cut to tall. By the time I was half way done with the tall weeds I had it figured out. I did not use 3M, the stuff that I used was Locktite brand. Still worked great. All the methods are pretty easy and I plan to incorporate them into the new layout soon. Thanks for the comps. Nick
VERY nice! Looks like you're ready to graduate from Ricard U. (voted best party school in West Virginia).
I can't even imagine what he might offer in the way of postgraduate courses!
A Bona Fide Graduate!!!!!
Beautiful work Nick,
Ralph
Great work! Would you happen to have a link to Joey Richard's on-line university so that I might enroll?
Looks real nice.

Matt, If you type in Joey Ricard in the search section of the forum you will see all the videos that he has posted on scenery. You also can find them on You tube too. Its the little things that he showed that make a difference on the layout. Thanks for the comments everyone. Nick

Actually they have tuff guidelines for partying, no grass or weeds bought illegally and no Pennsylvania equipment (this will rile up about 3/4s of the forum).
Well done. That looks amazing.
Inspiring work!
Your really created a very nice scene. Well done.
Nick,
This looks fantastic. Truly pro level stuff.
Great work and a great endorsement for Joey's courses.
Thanks for sharing this.

Nice job!

No I don't know.Please advise.
Thanks for the comments. I am now adding a RR tie bumper to the left side of the Dio. After May our 6 by 11 layout will be torn down. We are planning on building a larger layout, about 28 by 12 feet and will use what we learned from Ricard's videos. So if you are in the scenery stage of your layout check out some of the videos. My favorite was making the large brush and vines. Very easy to do and they can cover a lot of ground quick, also great for side of hills and cliffs. Nick

Go to the search and type in Joey Ricard and check out his videos, from making dirt to applying it and other helpful tips to make brush, vines and tall grasses. The videos are well done, very easy to understand and incorporate into your layout.
Sorry Nick and all, I just now found this post after being told about it while at York TCA Meet. Same goes for another similar post from John about weeds. I haven't been on here much the last few weeks while getting ready for York and other activities. Great work here and I am glad that some have tried the methods that I use.
It sure doesn't look like you need my advice with scenery wow that is great work on that masterpiece!
There are of course a lot of variables that affect the outcome, but most of the way is the same. It's takes time for those less experienced in scenery to get it, but with practice it is really easy and honestly it is fun to create something from scratch or with budget materials.
Great work here!
