I have been coming to York twice a year since I joined the TCA in 2002, however this is the first time I have stayed Friday night into Saturday. It seems strange to be here and there is no OGR Forum gathering. Joshua and I stayed the extra night to ride the Steam in History train in New Freedom at 7:00 this evening. The bad news is that the steam locomotive is out of service (front trucks are broken) and the ride was pushed/pull by a 44 Toner. No, I wouldn't have spent the extra night had I known there wasn't going to be a steam engine.
It seems everything winds down fast as the halls close Friday evening. What do people that stay until Saturday do on Friday night? I am sitting in the hotel wondering if I should have brought some track and a transformer and ran trains in the hotel room this evening. Of course with my luck I would end up setting off the smoke detectors. I guess I'll experience my first Saturday at York in the morning.

Debated whether to stay Friday night but decided to head home to Virginia via I-83.  That sure was a mistake.  Traffic was horrible even after "rush hour".

I was craving broiled crabcake and fried clam dinner near BWI. The food was good and I really needed the break by then.

Back to the "parkway" (duh!)  Bumper to bumper, stop & go, and got home by 10pm.

My wife and I have started staying Friday night because of the I83 and Baltimore traffic fiasco.  We have more time to walk the halls and usually make a quick final Orange Hall run Saturday morning.  We have dinner at the Round the Clock and always see a number of Yorkers having dinner.  I've had the San m e thought about taking a transfer and track; I might do that next April.

wish I knew you were still at the Hampton on friday night because I did choose to stay over, and it was a bit dead at York after about 4 pm.  But the ruby tuesdays next door to the Hampton in Shrewsbury (sp?) is a class act, and not a bad view out the rear at the surrounding countryside.

the restaurant is on a hill overlooking the valley and the view made for some nice transition as day faded into dusk. I think staying over on friday night  paid off because the drive home  ( I left Saturday morning at 7 am..decided to skip saturday York) was great. little traffic on 695 connecting to 70 west.

I actually had dinner at that Ruby Tuesday Friday night.

I usually still have 3 or 4 hours to drive yet before the show opens on Thursday, then I hang out in the member halls till five. Then I go to the hotel, check in, and grab a bite to eat. Then it's off to the firehouse for the Marx show and tell. It's usually about 10 by the time I get back to room, and 11 by the time I hit the rack.

So Friday I grab a quick bite to eat and then spend some quality time in the hotel's hot tub and call it an early night. I did swim a few hundred yards before I got into the tub this year though.

I really wish either the Marx group or the American Flyer group would move their show to Friday though so I could attend both of them.

One year I brought an oval of track and a transformer and "tested" a few of the items I purchased on the bed:

It does seem like there is a bunch of things to do Thursday night and not so much on Friday. Maybe OGR could move their forum get together at Quaker Steak to Friday. I went to that for a few years, but by the time the Marx show is over, the OGR show is winding down too and it makes for a very long day for me.
