I just started watching this series on amazon. I am noticing a lot of "photos" of the characters in the series taken at Strasburg Railroad facility and their trains. Fascinating history and ruthless competition, railroads, oil, and steel. #89 shows up a lot.

Wasn't that a History Channel production? Just my opinion but, it has gotten VERY hard to watch darned near ANYTHING on the History Channel, over the last 10 years or so. They seem to "over produce" everything, and sometimes even "stretch" their version of the "facts".
Most of what History produces have NOTHING to do with history.
I like the History Channel, but the advertisements are a definite no-no. A turn-off for me.

I watched it a lot back in the 19990s.Wow I now look back and thinkkkk those were good years. But then again thats when.I switched from ho to o gauge thanks MTH.
really there's not a need to record since most programs on cable tv allow one to scroll backwards and forwards..........or there are lotsa shows on youtube or netflix or such..........when watching the movie "Titanic" , I keep scrolling back a bit so the ship doesn't sink and Mrs. RedJimmy doesn't get sad.....lol
Yeah , History Channel used to be great but now has turned into a reality show .They should make a documentary on The Men who built Toys . Lionel , American flyer and Ives !

Did MODERN MARVELS do that?
Along the same topic, concerning railroads in America, is a great book called "Hear That Lonesome Whistle Blow". It covers a lot of the establishment of railroads across America in the 1800s and all the political, financial dealings that went on. It is rich in the history of the major lines still around and their establishment. Very interesting and informative for those who still have time to read a book. I highly recommend it.

What drives me crazy on "Men who made America" and "Cars that made America" is the use of European trains in the productions.
I watched that show. It was interesting to me. I like how every time they showed one of the barons of industry sitting at a table he had a glass of whiskey in front of him. I read one time whenever on the road Winston Churchill always brought cases of whiskey with him. His hotel room would be littered with glasses drunk dry and ashtrays filled with cigar butts. I don’t know, just sayin...

Sportscaster Halsey Hall always carried bottles of booze with him on MN Twins road trips. Fellow broadcaster Herb Carneal said Halsey was the only person he knew whose luggage "tinkled" when it was moved. Asked why he did it, given that all the hotels they stayed in had bars, he replied that you never knew when you might run into a local election.
One thing that bugged me about "The Men Who Built America" - besides the aforementioned European trains - was they put little effort into making the actors look like the people they were portraying. Actors who had beards playing men who didn't have beards, or clean-shaven actors portraying men who had facial hair...then there's JP Morgan's nose of course.
