For today's Midweek Diversion, something a little different from the usual poetic drivel...   ... A semi-regular look at a secretive but towering figure in the world of model trains...

(cue lounge music...)

He has a full-service LHS in his basement....

For winter scenes he uses real snow...and it never melts....

The NJ Hi-Railers pay to see his layout....

The refinery scene on his layout provides gasoline to upstate New York... and half of New England....

He is....the most interesting man in the (train) world.

  • When he runs a model freight train, the real railroads view him as competition for their shipping business.
  • The tracks on his layout cross the streets in his neighborhood...and drivers stop and patiently wait for his trains to pass.
  • When he removed the UP logos from his heritage models, Union Pacific followed suit.
  • He has a reserved parking space at CSX National Headquarters...and he doesn't even work for them.
  • When he left the Isle of Denial for a vacation, Norfolk-Southern repainted their locomotives to fallen flag schemes out of respect.
  • He claimed BNSF to be a fictional railroad...and BNSF agreed!

He is...The most interesting man in the [train] world.

"Stay O Scale my friends."

>Farmer Bill laughs at his pithy observations.

>His necktie inspired smokebox fronts on Henry Dreyfuss' steamlined NYC Hudsons.

>Around him, fans of Lionel, MTH, and various gauges and scales join in singing, "Why Can't We Be Friends?"

>Taylor and Magnetta are thrilled to be invited to his table.

>His hand-laid track sets the standards for HIGH SPEED RAIL.

>Water on his layout is Pierrer.

His TCA # is 1.

When he walks the halls at York the arrows automatically point in the direction he happens to be walking.

A.T.&T. installed courtesy phones in all the halls so he doesn't have to take his calls outside.

Table holders have been seen taking his picture.

Plasticville would change the town name to his, if they knew what it was.

He appears in TV commericals for an adult beverage, but I can't recall the name. His tag line is, "Stay thirsty, my friends." To me, he seems to be a man of mystery, like James Bond undercover. He walks a fine line between in-your-face beer commercials and super-sophisticated plutocrats in movies and on TV shows.

After I saw two or three of his commercials, I knew his next stop would be our Forum.

Joshua Lionel Cowen had his picture hanging on his office wall...

He's eaten scrapple, and lived to tell about it...

His cars license plate by sheer coincidence is NKP765...

His family tree includes Louis Marx, Joshua Cowen, Jerry Williams, A.C. Gilbert and Mike Wolf...

Eastern Divisions York meets are on Thursday and Friday because he's busy on the weekends...

When buying trains he never needs "Da numba"...

He is, the most interesting man in the train world!
