We went on the Southwest Chief in April to visit some relatives. When we boarded the train, I discovered that the last car on the train was a Surfliner! To make matters even weirder, the door to the car was locked, and it didn't look like there were any seats in the car (please note that I only observed this on the top level). I attached some pictures I took of it to this post. In the picture of the car from the back, it looked like there was a horn in a little niche on the car. Possibility of the car being a nonrevenue car refurbeshment move? Anyone else observe this happening?

This Amtrak Surfliner car was either going to or returning from Amtrak's Beach Grove repair facility. If the equipment that operates in California needs major work that can not be done at their repair facility near Los Angeles' Union Station then the cars are attached to the rear of a Southwest Chief train and forwarded to Chicago and then on to Beach Grove Shop in Indiana.
