Wow Alex making good progress! Keep chugging along! (No pun intended lol, or is there 😂). You beat me to laying track but I’m getting there. Keep it up!
Gunnerjohn, thanks for your answer re wiring for DCS & Legacy. May I ask you a few more questions? If I should move this thread, please direct me as to where. I’m rather inexperienced with the forum.
good for you Alex, you deserve to have the layout running.

I'd suggest just starting a new thread, probably in Lionel TMCC, LEGACY and ERR would be a good place.

OK- so inquiring minds want to know.......why do you store your scenery materials in a refrigerator??????
Nice progress on the layout Alex.

I don't even know how my my toaster works, which is why I have green felt on a table and a toy train layout! But I sure do love what you're doing Alex, the skill it displays, the philosophy of simply running the trains--and being a Brooklyn College man for a time--the Brooklyn accent.
Thanks for sharing. It's a tonic for my blood pressure.

Looks great. An impressive amount of results for a few weekends work. I think pulling that section away from the wall was smart. 👍
Looks great Alex.
Alex
looking nice, you are making good progresss!
Three round circles You should put a Christmas tree in the middle Your first layout had the best track plan
Lookin' good Alex, you look to beat me with power on the tracks, but I'm yapping at your heels. I like the accessibility, nice work with that, it'll make it easy to work on.
I have to say, I don't know if I could be happy ducking under, with 40" high benchwork, I have to crawl if the lift-bridge is down.
Nice work ALEX!!!!👍👍. Keep up the great work!!!
Alex, do you have any big articulateds? If so you may have a problem with the upper level supports near your duck under. They look very close to the track. just sayin.
Pete
Good for you Alex! Glad to see you'll finally get a chance to enjoy your own trains!
Just curious. Have you built this with the intention of the benchwork to be salvagable for your next home/layout?

First off, it that layout makes Alex happy....more power to him.
Secondly, he mentioned that the layout will probably be taken down in 2-3 years and that it may not get scenery. This is not a long term layout. Rather, it's a means to run trains.
This plan offers a nice way to run three trains on two levels and will have a working roundhouse. It works.....IMHO.
Hey Alex, thanks for the update. I was wondering when you were going to be getting back to the layout. I completely understand the changes that you made. Especially if you are planning to move in the next two to three years.
Great update Alex, I cant wait to see you running trains around your layout!

First off I dont care what your opinion is I was talking to Alex
Looks great, Alex! I'm glad you have been able to get back to building the layout! I'll look forward to seeing trains running!!
Alex you did a lot of nice work in a short amount of time. I like the double main and watching trains traveling in opposite directions. Passenger cars look good on long straights as you know. Happy for you.
Hey Alex,
I have been looking at your "workbench" thread and was wondering when we would get a layout update. It's always good to re-evaluate your work and you made the change at the right time. If it works for you it works for me. Glad to see that you are happy with your decision. Though I was hoping to see you move into your scenery work I certainly understand that you don't want to go that far right now. I will, God willing, wait another 3 or more years to see what masterpiece you come up with.
Dave
looks great,,Have fun with that layout
Looks good Alex! Hopping to see some trains running soon.
What was the reason for changing directions on the around the room layout?
Thanks!
Mike
Alex, layout looking good. Thanks for the update.
Craig
Looks good there Alex.Your layout is coming along very nicely.Hopefully we will get to see it.
Hi Alex really and nice job and coming along quickly, hope you Lionel VLBB can make the curves and not hit 2 x 4 holding track up!
Alan
Hi guys
Thank you all for the kind comments.
The 2x4 is only a temporary support. I didn’t finish that area yet.
Thanks, Alex
Very nice Alex. Enjoy your very nice temporary layout.
Alex.
Great job! A lot of work in such a short amount of time.
I think Ben might be onto something there. LOL!
Although I think you should rename it to The NASCAR CENTRAL! LOL!
Relax everyone I'm friends with Alex for 30 years. He knows I'm Joking!

Alex,
Were you happy with the lift section you build in the part of the layout you removed? I used your idea for securing the lift section / track alignment with a barrel bolt lock. It helped keep the lift section level and the tracks aligned.
Thanks,
Richard

Hi Richard,
The issue i was having with the lift out section was expansion and contraction, this layout room isn't fully heated or cooled. It's part of the house that's totally unfinished, so heating and cooling comes from portable units. Plus the lift out sections were located on curves, not straights. Another issue was the lift outs were making it look like clutter in the room. Now the way it is it feels much more open and airy.
Thanks, Alex
As for the track plan, yes i agree it's pretty much three loops. i will reiterate... this isn't our forever home, i didn't feel like going to the town and filing for permits to finish the room off (heating, cooling, electric, etc etc.). I also had to leave easy access to the utilities, so i was only left was a 21x11 area. Most likely we will only be here for two more years, not going to invest money and time into something that has to be dismantled. Once we get to our forever home i will then create a dream layout, for now I'm happy with this. I can run trains let them stretch their legs.
Thanks, Alex
Alex,
Thanks for the info about the lift section. I only open mine when absolutely necessary. I’m not too old to crawl under to get into the train room... yet!
I will be contacting you soon. I have a repair I need to send you.
Take care,
Richard
Great job, Alex!
What you gave done in 8 days is amazing........
