WOW!  It's beautiful!  Hey it's your railroad, run it your way.

I have this exact engine and the gray one coming, so I ordered both NYC fantasy engines.  I believe I will be happy with a couple of engines that are not black.  I really wanted an engine to make a nice pacemaker train.  I have Pacemaker rolling stock other than the PS-1 boxcars.  I was extremely disappointed with the caboose Lionel "threw" in with the top shelf PS-1 boxcars.  The caboose in my opinion is really cheesy.  I have noticed whenever I seem to order the legacy sets, I get a cheap caboose.

I don't look forward to the big hit on March's CC bill though!

I also have the Southern Pacific Legacy and TMCC versions.  It was another home run from Lionel.  Most detail added locomotive I think Lionel has ever made!

Dave and Ryan - you ought to be reading this! The caboose s____!!

Hi Don,

I agree with you, 99 percent of my engine's are black even though that's prototypical, it's nice to offset with a bit of color. I know it's a fantasy paint scheme, but IMO it looks great. When you see yours in person, you're going to love it.

Hello everyone,

Paul, I agree with you about the green markers, I'm going to pull the power on them.

I will most likely turn off the green markers, possibly paint over the white walls , and might change the color inside the cab. If i could ever find the time LOL

Thanks everyone, Alex

I believe these are the 3 stage LEDs in the class lights.  Green , White, and off.

Hey Alex,

Is there a way to make the new type of green markers match the green ones of the past? They look really bright and stick out vs every other maker from the dawn of time. Yours look much better since you changed them to white.

These class lights have clear lenses. The old lights had a green LED and Green lenses or no lens at all. Most Legacy engines have lenses on their class and marker lights.

I am sure the class lights from the TMCC Mohawks would fit but then you would be back to green only lights.

I would be fine with that I think if they matched the old stuff then. I was curious about if they had a lens at all, or if that was just an LED light bulb that is seen. Not knowing what was prototypical and not too concerned about that detail, I prefer the green ones and would gladly give up the functionality of changing them that the clear lens provides.

Here is a solution Randy. Cheap and easy to apply. I have been adding them to my older engines that came without lenses. These are clear but green would be even darker. I use canopy glue which dries clear. Search on flatback rhinestones for more options.

Hello all ,

At first I was skeptical about ordering one in the fantasy paint scheme. Once I opened it up I’m glad I did. In my opinion it’s beautiful in person. So here’s some pictures and videos.

Thanks for looking , Alex

Alex,

Thanks for posting these videos. My Mohawk arrived with the front marker lights inop. Not sure I wanted to open a new engine  under warranty. After watching your video, I was able to reseat the lighting board JST. Thanks.

The U-tube videos of the Pacemaker Mohawk are wonderful, but I just can't stand the lime-green marker lights in my group on New York Central steam engines, two Hudson (Mr. Muffin's and Pat's), one Vision Niagara #6013, and my older Mohawk #2791. The appearance is the first thing I see. A smoking whistle is nice, but the overly-bright marker lights kills the illusion, so I sent my new Mohawk #2775 back to the dealer.  The dealer did sell me two sets of the Vision Sound Pacemaker Box cars with the cheap caboose. The second set just arrived and is not shown.

My Legacy 10-wheeler had the buttons on the CAB2 to turn off the markers.  Is that not the case on the Legacy Mohawks?

Thanks,

Don’t blame Lionel for the color. The ceramic 2mm green LEDs that most all train manufacturers have been using since the ‘90s were discontinued by the manufacturer, Lumex, a few years ago. Apparently their replacements are different wavelength. Not much anyone can do here. They can still be found if you want to give up the white option.

I would gladly give up the white Marker Light option to have the emerald green marker lights I like.  Instead I gave up the Steam whistle Smoke I wanted, and kept my old Lionel Legacy Mohawk #2791with the emerald green marker lights. Blowing smoke out the whistle is not as important as an engine that looks like I want it to look.

If the marker lights were changed I would be happy. There were No marker lights on my Mr. Muffin's J3a #5415 Hudson, and I never received the alternate boiler front with market Lights that were promised by Pat's Trains for the J3a #5416 Hudson.  It has been a while since I had my Vision Line Niagara #6013 out of the box. I can't remember if it has marker lights.

Yes I can always turn the marker lights OFF. I can also leave the engine in the box. If I am going to leave the engine in the box, it might as well be "in-the-box at the Dealer".  I would not want to deprive a fellow model railroader the opportunity to own it.  As always, I am thinking of you. . . . though I did buy the last two Pacemaker Vision Box Car sets that Legacy Station had.  Sorry about that.

Sincerely, John Rowlen

No class lights on the Niagaras. Built after NYC discontinued using them. L2as were built when NYC still used class lights so they are correct. Lionel has smokebox fronts with class lights for J3a’s if you wanted them, you would have to swap out the headlight to retain the correct cab number. 6-28072 is the engine number.

Nice to see a post from you John. Hope all is well. Still painting Peiser figures???

RSJB18,  I hope I have that typed correctly.  I have not painted any Preiser 65602 Seated People for a year and a half. It is a thing I did when I was caring for my mother after her illness. I would paint people and detail passenger cars until 3:00 A.M. when she would get up for a glass of water or juice. After she was tucked back in I caught some sleep. Unfortunately Ruth did not live to 103 like my brother-in-law's step-mother. On March 8, 2021 she passed at 94, having three more good years of Dairy Queen ice cream, drives through Cleveland's Metro Parks and staying in the home she and my father, Paul, built.

I am busy selling my large train collection on Ebay with good success. The many detailed passenger cars will be listed for sale. They are truly one-of-a-kind passenger trains. I am the only family member left in Cleveland and spend my time sorting through the memories and listing items on Ebay. I still have an NYCESE Observation, baggage lounge and a few Union Pacific Vista Vision cars to detail. I will paint a few more people this next winter. It is fun to bring a white piece of plastic to life and watch them travel on my railroad.

Best Wishes,  John Rowlen

You can see some of my detailing in the thread "NEW Lionel Penn Central 21 inch Passenger Cars".  I detailed each of the seven Lionel cars and added pictures to the thread.

Like Alex, I was hesitant to pre order one, although it looked really nice in the catalog. Sometimes the catalog illustrations don’t always translate well once you see it in person. But the Pacemaker is gorgeous. Fortunately, my dealer had an order cancellation and I bought it. Added the Lionel Pacemaker expansion set as well as a Lionel and MTH flat cars with the NYC Pacemaker pup trailers.
