I cannot wait for the opportunity to buy this locomotive.

PLEASE Lionel, do this right away.

I will write to Jerry Calabrese today to do it.

When Ginny and I receive our loco, we will have Ginny's father's (a hero of WWII as the first American officer

to enter the Town of Cassino . . . . and be gravely wounded) name professionally painted on the loco.

Our railroad is dedicated to her father's memory . . .  Fil Munoz.

Wouldn't it be amazing if Lionel offered this service to every purchaser who wanted to dedicate the locomotive to someone special?

Here is the reason it should be done.

I agree. Although I did not see combat, I was in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. I think a percentage of the profit should go to the Veterans in some way. I was lucky enough to see the travelling Vietnam War Memorial Wall a few years back. It brings you to tears just looking at the 58,000 plus names of those who died over there.

That may well be true for the rivet-counting crowd, but as far as I am concerned they could apply that scheme to just about any locomotive and I would be at the top of the list to buy one.  Fortunately (in my opinion), in the 3-rail O gauge segment of the hobby the majority still have not gotten to that rivet-counting stage.

Whoever comes out with this paint scheme first, and pretty much regardless of the locomotive they apply it to, will almost certainly have a sales winner.

I want a Lionel Standard O Legacy model (I'm not a rivet counter, so close enough is good enough for me), but I'd also like to see it in a veterans tribute starter set, in addition to the scale models.  It should be represented in all the product lines.

Quite frankly, I (along with many O-Gauge enthusiasts) wouldn't know the difference, and don't even care.  Heck, Lionel or MTH could even produce this locomotive as an ES44- or SD70-class locomotive like the other NS Heritage units, and I'd be just as happy -- although I believe both companies already have SD60-class tooling that could be called upon for this model.

I predict this paint-scheme will be a best-seller regardless of the model the importers decide to use.  Just my opinion, FWIW.

If I were running Lionel (or MTH for that matter), I would not only do this scheme in all of my product lines (Standard O, Traditional, American Flyer in the case of Lionel, and Premier, RailKing, S gauge, and HO in the case of MTH), but I would donate a portion of the profits to veterans charities.  Or even split across several, like an organization that helps aging veterans (veterans homes), an organization that helps wounded veterans, an organization that helps those currently serving (like the USO), and an organization that helps the families and children of our service men and women who have given that "last full measure of devotion" in service to our country.
