Ok, so I just got the shells back from David Long at The Kelly Creek Backshop, and the number boards are perfect!  Thank you, thank you, thank you, David!

He is best known for his work in HO, but his attention to detail and steady hand made him a shoe in for O!  He is a master.

The 8010 is the stock Lionel unit, and the 8006 was the one that I had renumbered.  the original paint work and decal was done by the Jeff Sohn, whose paint matched absolutely perfectly and decal work was dead-eye straight.  The only thing needed was the number boards, and David got the call, I'm so glad he answered!

Mr. Long will be my only choice for paint work for the future.

Have a great day!

These are two fabulous jobs. The details are the best.

What I'm wondering about are the number boards that you got from David Long. Does he make illuminated number boards?

I could see this as a fun project with Railking engines.  Generally their number boards are not illuminated. One should be able to carefully cut out the number board and replace them with a BULB BEHIND THEM.

i LIKE TO CAREFULLY DRILL OUT THE DUMMY CLASSIFICATION LIGHTS AND PUT ledS IN THEM.

i LOVE ILLUMINATION ON ENGINES.

Thanks,

Alan

Ops on the cap button

Thanks everyone!

I actually sent David the number boards decals from Shellscale, and generic gothic stencil data from Microscale (Stencil Gothic - White)...

The class lights have LEDs in them, but I don't know why there are yellow in the front (short hood) and green in the rear (long hood).

The number boards are lit, and on the lead unit (8010) they're the factory boards.  Since the renumbered unit didn't have the option to go with back-lit compatible numbers (Shellscale only offered them in HO and N),

Thanks,

Mario
