Your definitions of "not looking at the road" and "staring into his camera" sure are different than mine.

 

I've been to Rob's railroad; it's a really neat place. The "toy man" definitely got a few things wrong (the Disneyland cars were not "declared surplus and put up for sale." Nor were the engines either "built for the movies" nor built out of "old switch engines."

Did "cool" become the new "decent?"  Seems like every 4th word was "cool," it became annoying right quick.

 

I don't think any movie studio ever built a fully functioning steam locomotive for a movie.  Wood and metal prop locomotives, yes.  Some were indistinguishable from the real thing.  Otherwise, the studios would either lease or occasionally buy a locomotive.
